Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area calls Josh Johnson a "logical target" if the 49ers trade for a quarterback this offseason.
Johnson has been rumored to be on the trade block before, and new 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh coached up the dual threat passer at the University of San Diego. A fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft, Johnson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Not including any potential compensatory picks, the 49ers have 10 selections to work with in the 2011 draft.
Thought? I don't know much about this kid, but if Harbaugh likes him..........I like him.

Some of the guys on here spread this and it went like wild fire. It's possible but the CBA has to be signed before players can be traded. Also, I mentioned before but he is a backup to me so I wouldn't give up more than a 6th. He doesn't offer much in the wildcat or spreading out at WR and they have Freeman so they don't really need him. We gave up Shaun Hill who could start for probably 10 teams in this league for a 7th.
P.S. Easy on creating threads as well. If you are new there is a free agency forum, an nfl forum, a draft forum, etc. Take a look around, see how things work. 99% of the stuff is posted or being discussed already.

Why give up a draft pick when we can just sign T. Smith who can do just a good a job.

Your kidding right. Any Qb named Smith from the 2010 roster sucks.

No, I'm not kidding. What's Josh, a 3rd stringer? What's the difference. Or, would you rather they name Carr the starter?

Really, what's the point - he's shown nothing in the pro's and possess little in the way of tangibles?

Yeah, maybe we should just "draft a qb" instead.

I liked him coming out of San Diego. I would trade a 4th, maybe even a 3rd rd pick for him.

I'm sure there going to draft a Qb. These guys are just stop-gaps until the Qb we draft is ready to come in a start.

Hell no. A fifth rd pick who's done nothing in the pros, how does that justify a 3rd or 4th? Most I'd give is a 7th.

I'd rather go after McNabb when Washington cut him - or trade a 7th for him as soon as the CBA allows.
McNabb knows the WCO better than Johnson and would be a perfect starter whilst a young QB is developed.
Getting McNabb would also prevent him landing at a division rival - like Arizona for example.
A QB stable of McNabb, Carr and say McElroy from the draft would give Harbaugh and co a firm foundation to work from.

I think he'd be a good p/u...question is, is he ready to start in the NFL? Maybe, maybe not. Why not get both Orton and JJ...then keep either Carr or Troy Smith as the #3 QB. Harbaugh would have a QB he can win with now and a youngster who can learn from him, then take over when JH feels he's ready.
