Jed has been getting a lot of blow jobs from the media lately. I wonder who the first one will be to start hating again.

Cohn is not my favorite writer, but I think he and Kawakami take waaaay to much heat on this board. They're columnists, not beat writers. It's their job to editorialize, that is, offer opinion on what they see happening. And what's more, they are not fans, so they are not trying to be optimistic, like you and I might be.

Most bay area teams have not given the impartial columnists much to be positive about the last several years, so they write about negative things. I think both of them are perfectly willing to write about our local teams successes when they happen. But they are not going to hold back when the teams are blowing it. Which has happened a lot of this last decade, sadly.

Anyway, nice to see Cohn publicly acknowledge what he sees at a defining and positive moment for Jed York.
Well I'll be damned

Re-post from "apology" thread that was locked. I never got a chance to reply to anyone before is was locked. I think it really applies here.

I won't apologize for my sentiments on Jed York because I think they were true. He came in with an ego and thought he could run things without experience or advise.

The first thread I started on this forum was about this issue.

I wanted Jed to hire an experienced General Manager during the season so that he could help guide Jed through the coming offseason and have plenty of time to evaluate the team before the CBA got in the way of that.

I wanted Jed to bring in someone who he could work with and learn from.

Well, Jed went another route and called up Uncle Eddie. I think he has been given a lot of good advise and he has done a good job of listening to it. I never doubted that Jed was intelligent and had passion for football and especially for this team. This was why I didn't go off the edge like a few others... I still had hope that the young man could learn from his mistakes.

I can't understand why some people aren't willing to give Jed credit for the things that he has done.
Jed went out and got advise... publicly. He took responsibility for his failure... publicly. Now it looks like he is going to step out of the spotlight. Putting aside your ego is a very hard thing to do....

The sentences in bold were the whole point in this post.

I give credit to Cohn and I give him respect, when I had none before. He put aside his ego and was willing to give credit when it was earned. Well done, Cohn.

I had intended the quoted post to prove a point to those who would not give Jed credit. If the "Prince of York" can put aside his ego and admit his mistakes, perhaps those who criticize him so relentlessly and are unwilling to give him any credit could actually learn a valuable lesson from Jed's example.

Jed still has a lot to prove, but he deserves credit for his recent decisions and his growth. Let's hope he keeps it up!

As an aside, I will continue to call him "Jed". I do not have any fondness for his Father and I do not want to be reminded of that connection. Anyway, I call his Uncle by his first name, too.
I like Jed. He seems to have a really big mouth ( no homo ), but its obvious to see that he wants this team to win, unlike his dumbass parents. He's young, which is real important. I think a 29 year old 'kid' will have much more fire and passion for his team than some stupidass doctor like John York.

I know he was pretty damn stupid for texting ESPN and saying we'd make the playoffs, but it just shows that at least he cares. Over time, he'll mature even more and even better, make better football decisions.

The 49ers made the right move on 1 count. Albeit a lucky one where the best HC chose to stay in his same city. The other count on GM IMO they failed.

But if Lowell Cohn wishes to stop calling him Prince and such that is fine. It's nice to hear Jed took time for the media and was very gracious and polite. That alone shows some growing up on his part IMO.

ok...
there is nothning Obvious about the GM situation yet success or fail by his part is still TBD.
so stop confusing your own opinion with a little something called fact. and it takes a helluva alot more than just location for a grown man to decide such a serious thing as his future and reputation on what job he'll take. you dont sit in an interview for 6+ hours if you think the FO is crap and sure as s**t dont take the job. ITS WASNT LUCK.
my whole problem with this dude is he spoke too damn soon. If you want to bash, wait till the time is right. Don't do it till you know you are right. Instead, you start hating before you know the details. I have no desire to read this guys work....before or now. I didn't even finish this article. I believe Cohn just needed this to try to regain some credibility. Only the haters read that crap.

why do you keep saying we were "lucky"? its not lucky to have signed Harbaugh. we offered 5 million per season, a talented roster, the opportunity to coach a great franchise who he had lifelong ties to, and the chance to stay at home to do it.

Jim Harbaugh should consider himself the lucky one that this opportunity presented itself. just because weve been bad the last 8 years doesnt mean our franchise is the Detroit Lions, and we have to beg people to coach here.

i dont care how bad weve been recently, when you walk into the building and youre surrounded by framed pictures of Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Steve Young, etc and a giant glass case filled with 5 Lombardi trophies, youre the lucky one. not the organization.

he wanted to coach here to begin with, and said his mind was already made up during his 5-6 hour interview that he was coming here. everything that ensued after was just courtesy and the media starting a million internet rumors.

we offered him the ability to stay at home, coach the team he grew up loving and his mentor built, start with a talented roster, and get paid tons of money to do so. there was nothing "lucky" about him picking us. we had what he wanted.

You should just ignore SD. I've never seen a "fan" hate so much on his own team in my life. He just wants them to fail so somehow they will end up in L.A., because he isn't really a Niners fan, he is just a desperate Southern Californian wanting a sports team, even though that luke warm part of the state has the worst fans in the world. Either that, or he is really a Raiders/Seahaws/Cardinals/Rams fan and is just on here to screw with people.
