He could have thrown it in my face that he got Harbaugh and I had doubted him. He was above that. He had grown and I’d be remiss not to notice or respect that.
What a condescending little man. I think Lowell makes a mistake thinking Jed actually cares what he thinks.

He gives credit where credit is due. Class move from both Jed and Lowell.

LOL.
The 49ers made the right move on 1 count. Albeit a lucky one where the best HC chose to stay in his same city. The other count on GM IMO they failed.
But if Lowell Cohn wishes to stop calling him Prince and such that is fine. It's nice to hear Jed took time for the media and was very gracious and polite. That alone shows some growing up on his part IMO.

I think young Mr York's quality time with Uncle Eddie recently has paid off huge. He's still 29 and (as with all owners) there are still going to be some mistakes, but it seems he's done a 180. And for him to handle himself that way with Cohn after all the heat... and the lack of respect says a lot.
I know there are those who still believe this was "blind luck" but I believe that luck is when preperation meets oportunity- and you don't screw it up.... York was prepared, and took full advantage of the opportunity when it made itself available... I would even say HE helped to make it available with his quick hiring of Baalke.
I have not been this excited as a 9er fan in a long time.

I understand it is your opinion but how can you say hiring Baalke was a failure....so far he has conducted a successful draft, resigned willis and vd....and hired hottest coach available...

I don't agree on the draft. I think he missed there. Willis and VD is good. The HC IMO chose to stay in the Bay Area. Obviously he had tons of opportunites both college and pro all around the country.

You crack me up. From now on I am just going to read all of your posts in "sarcasm" font... cuz you can't be serious.

We don't know yet on the draft. So far the only one I'm not liking is Mays. Davis I hated at first but late in the season he was doing much better. I just don't want to see anymore games like he had against Chris Long.
Mays needs to shape up. Horrible 2nd round draft choice so far. No wonder he's not first round talent like Carrol told him he was.

I'm pleased to hear he is more gracious with the media. That shows some maturity on his part.

Are we lucky Harbaugh has roots here and worships Bill Walsh? Duh . . of course. But Eric Branch posted an article that makes it pretty clear that there was more to it than that . . .
Quote:
But the evidence suggests York and Baalke deserve to take a few bows after deftly handling a hiring that could have fallen apart.
According to reports, Harbaugh was close to signing with the Niners on Wednesday. And Harbaugh confirmed that he was impressed during his meeting with York and Baalke. The Niners could offer him a great location, a decent talent base that had been under-coached and the chance to coach at the highest level — a package no other college, or NFL team, could provide.
“I felt like I knew then (San Francisco) was the direction that I wanted to go,” Harbaugh said. “So all along the process, I was making my mind up, I think.”
And York and Baalke, eschewing a high-pressure sales pitch, encouraged Harbaugh to explore his other options.
“We told him, ‘If you want to sign right now and you feel comfortable, then great, we want you to be our coach,'” York said. “‘If you want to see what some of the other options are, you need to see if this is the right fit for you. There can't be any doubt in your mind.'”
York admitted the process was “stressful” and Thursday, no doubt, had to be ulcer-inducing.
First, Harbaugh met with Stanford on the same day Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck announced he was returning to school — a decision, it was thought, that could lure Harbaugh back to Palo Alto. That was followed by a meeting with Ross.
Both Stanford and Miami reportedly offered more money than the 49ers, whose five-year, $25 million contract wasn't substantially more than their initial offer.
York resisted the urge to throw more money at Harbaugh, believing it wouldn't be necessary to close the deal.
If it didn't work out, York would likely have been perceived as cheap and inexperienced.
But after Harbaugh's hiring, he was, well, vindicated.
“It's one of those things where you can't make this about the money,” York said. “And I think that's what Jim said very clearly. It had to be the right fit. And I firmly believe that. And I firmly believe that we were the right fit for him and he was the right fit for us.”

I don't really like reading Lowell's work. I appreciate that there are reporters like him or Kawakami that criticize the 49ers. But Lowell seems to actually be a HATER of anything the team does. Kawakami has been harsh on the Yorks, but he does kind of mention the good possibilities, while harshly pointing out the bad.
For instance, when Alex was reinstated as starter at the end of the season, of course it would've been natural to bash Alex... but Kawakami conceded that Alex gave the team the best chance to win. Of course, he was clear in saying that if Alex failed... then both he and Singletary were gone.
Meanwhile, Cohn blatantly trashed both Singletary and Alex. It's like, things were a foregone conclusion that the 49ers weren't going to make it. Like they say, "that's why you play the game." ... He just strikes me as the type that, while he probably is right, doesn't consider the possibilities that he's wrong.
In a word, Cohn strikes me as polarizing. He's generally been right about the team, but just rubs you the wrong way.
