Which defense do you prefer next year in SAN FRANCISCO??

I think we need to stay with the 34 myself! Plus Vic is a Dom Capers deciple. I am excited for the change.
Absolutely need to stay in the 3-4. Cannot have major transition on both sides of the ball. We're a 3-4 team - if you don't like, oh well.
Stay 3-4...

Personnel, "incoming coach", depth...

It's already here, just upgrade corners.

Agreed. Maybe try to add another passrusher too
I would prefer any defense that makes stops and allows the least amount of points.

NT's are responsible for run defense. We had one of the best run defenses in the league. We can easily re-tag Franklin. There's no one else we'd need to tag.
the kind that sits on the bench and watches our shiny new WCO carve teams up all day.
The 49ers do not all the pieces to run either a 4-3 or a 3-4, however, there are compelling reasons to stay 3-4.

1. Lack only a pass rushing OLB and perhaps a NT if Franklin leaves. Would need two DEs plus an OLB to run 4-3.

2. Team is used to 3-4.

3, Fangio is the likely DC and he has run it very well. As others have noted, he learned under Capers who runs some of the best blitz schemes in the league.

4. 3-4 is a more versatile alignment which allows for better pass coverage.

Of course, one other big issue will be if Franklin and/or Lawson leave. I don't know about Franklin but I rather suspect Lawson will leave. He was not happy that he was not offered an extension. JH will have some convincing to do to get him to stay.

If Franklin leaves, it might just depend on who is available in the draft and FA as to which system.

I like the way you think.

Even though it hasn't turned out for us yet, the 3-4 is just a better defense if you can get it to work.

There are reasons why so many teams are going to the 3-4. If you can get it to work, it is the most effective D that has been devised.

I think will stay 3-4! It's what i believe he ran at Stanford! Also if we keep greg or higher his dc from Stanford. we will stay 3-4! Either way we should keep TKO he's still performs at a high level especially for a ILB at his age, and playing in the 3-4 with all the injuries he's had. knock on wood. Also i'd like to just replace harlson and draft a OLB!!! A TRUE PASSRUSHER WITH SPEED! And let him and Brooks and Laboy rotate and Lawson on the other side! We could still keep harlson but back up only because he's improved against the run this last season.

Also Rookie Cb, In peterson or Prince... I think peterson could flop most lsu cb's do, but i like his size and his physical ability. I think Price is better in the hips, but peterson alone could be a guy like chris mccalister was before getting injured. a guy who can cover anyone and jam him up, has the speed to run with the guy, but likes to get dirty and help in the run game!

I think lawson understands the cba is why not a lot of players are getting those extensions right now. If you remember he put his ego aside and came to camp!

Franklin could walk, but i like to get a deal in place with him or let Francis play the nose...

We can always keep A. Franklin, and in my estimation, he is a stud 3-4 NT.

We have the talent for a 3-4.

What else do you need to know.
