There's a lot of talent on the OL. Staley is pretty solid, if not injury prone lately. I sort of agree with everyone that if Davis can settle down, he may be the longterm LT. That kid is off the charts on athletic ability, but his progress probably did not get helped by having Rachal next to him this past year.
Heitmann is the smart guy of the OL, but he's really been injured badly several times now. It's almost the Jesse Sapolu story...undersized but very bright. Baas had his shot to be a power man at G and C, but didn't really excel.
Rachal doesn't seem to be getting better. I had hoped we would have drafted Max Unger, but Seattle got to him. Anyone think Harbaugh might try to land one of graduating OL from Stanford?

Is anyone else excited about our OLine next year?

It all hinges on Anthony Davis. Because it was pretty rough watching Davis struggled this year. And then there's Chilo....

Chilo should be cut.
I'm assuming Singletary was the only reason he was playing. They must be buddies or something.

but i understand where your excitement is coming from the O-line should be strong next season and finally wont be the reason we're losing games.
LT-Joe Staley(decent LT maybe will swap with A. Davis in a season or two)
LG-Mike Iupati(a beast of a lineman)
C-Eric Heitman or David Baas (to be replaced in the next year or two..
decent for now)
RG- Chilo Rachel(hopefully repaced this offseason by a vet or beat out by a rookie in camp)
RT-Anthony Davis(if his pass protection skills inprove well enough swap Staley)
i hope ^^
Wil the Niners have enough good linemen because Harbaugh ran a lot of plays with 6 or more O-linemen?

I think with a proper offense installed and one that is not predictable, along with getting the experience this year. Our O-line will be much improved

Upgrading Center and Right Guard need to be an absolute priority. Free rushers up the middle between C and RG were a critical issue all season.
We can't go into the season next year expecting the same group to become great. We were something like 5th to last in the league in number of sacks allowed. You don't keep doing something that's doing so poorly. We must address our weaknesses, and center and right guard are those weaknesses.
I'm excited if we draft/sign a C and/or G.

i feel like davis maybe the left tackle next season. His problem was bullrushers and powerrushers manhandled him because he wasnt strong enough but he was very effective againist speedrushers. One offseason with nfl level lifting and working out and he will be ready for left tackle. Plus he is most likely more comfortable on the left side.

Really? I thought Baas did a decent job at C. Thought Snyder looked better Chilo which is scary

The question here is does Hardaugh like big OL that are more of a road pavers or does he prefer slightly lighter that can quickly get out and set up screens?

Even with sims in the tackles didn't seem to be the problem. You have to expect a tackle gets beat a couple of times a game. The qb has to know how to step up or around the pressure. Our real problem seems to be interior pressure and lack of interior holes for the running game. It is astounding how dingleberry insisted running where it was obvious we couldn't win the battles.
We need the oc and ol coach to get the g-c-g unit working better as a unit. When you watch these playoff teams their interior units work really well to control the center, whether running or pass blocking.
The center is not typically a power blocking guy. More important that he can call the scheme and then assist with the interior blocking or get to a LB. We seem to have two of those guys - bass and heitman. For all his size, rachal plays soft. He appears to be the weak link that needs to be replaced. We might be able to make it through the next season with heitman back at center and bass moving to RG. I have no idea why snyder can't seem to make it in a permanent position - he seems to start strong and then become ineffective quickly at every place they try him.

At this point I can see what you are saying and am cautiously optimistic. I'll be even more optimistic if we resign Baas and can find a legit, veteran OG in free agency.

Why Davis was rated higher than the awesome, throwin Samoan is beyond me.
He wasn't by most accounts. Iupati was the #1 OG in the draft according to almost everyone. Davis was the 3rd - 5th OT in the draft depending on who you asked.
