We should never have hired Sing as the interim, in my opinion.
Maybe Jed shouldn't have hired Singletary, but it was a popular move. As for Martz, f**k that clown shoe. He is one of the most overrated coaches ever.

There were several factors, most of which lead back to Sing...
1. Smith's inadequate perfomance (Sing and Smith to blame)
-sing did not bring in a legitimate QB to challenge the #1
-Sing gave Smith Raye
-Smith just is not that good
2. Inability to adjust during gametime (sing's fault)
-our team is just not really that talented
-Sing obviously didn't have the team prepared for sooo many games
3. Players not playing to potential (sing and players fault)
-players playing "scared"
-Sing couldn't teach the X's and O's
-players we're not performing
4. Not shifting the OL at all! (all on sing)
-Davis was not quite ready, although will be better for the experience
-Rachal was obviously not doing well, but somehow remained a starter
5. Gore got hurt (accident and Sing)
-Sing refused to use any RB but Gore, even though WB showed he is wayyy more than capable, and Dixon looks to be growing as well.

Agree and he should not have been hired as assitant HC either! It put him in a situation where his promotion seemed logical...even without a lick of experience.

I'm just saying, I would have preferred someone with experience. Martz would've been better in my opinion and we wouldn't be where we are today. But hey, everything happens for a reason.
Maybe it all will lead to the Super Bowl? Who knows. We'll see.

Singletary, plain and simple. His offense, his choice of offensive coordinator, his choice of backup QB, etc. Yes, York hired him, but at that time it seemed like a good hire. Singletary basically turned the 49ers into a circus.

Yeah, I agree there, but hindsight is 20/20 so they say...

fortunately like i said in my original post, we had a lot of pluses heading into the season, and the factor that held us back from success is gone, and most of the others are still in place and gonna improve

The Martz / Sing debate is comical. Remember Martz started JT O'Sullivan that season and forgot about using Gore and VD?? Only when he was FORCED to play Hill did he start to integrate Gore and VD more. Martz was not the answer and had demonstrated he was going to be difficult to make run a balanced offense -- let alone run the stupid dingleberry offense.
Yes, he could have been the interim HC, and then maybe we would have had different results - Singletary almost certainly wouldn't hav gotten his HC chance. But I doubt Martz would have meant more winning in 2009 or 2010 - but who knows.
We'd probably be in the same place we are today - but at least the Offense would have been a hell of a lot more fun to watch for the last two years!!! LOL

2010 was a failure because of inexperience everywhere, poor QB play and poor secondary play. Simple.

On the matter of the 2010 season -- IT WAS COACHING! Except for the Atlanta and Saints games for some odd reason, our team was thoroughly out coached in every other game
(I guess that should be limited to games they lost - although even then I doubt the coaches were geniuses in 5 games and bumbling idiots in the losses. I will say the AZ gameplan under Tomsula was better).
1. Started games flat
2. Completely vanilla and predictable game plans on both sides of the ball.
3. No in game adjustments
4. Poor team performance -- penalties, mental errors -- that is coaching! Even Clements fumble is COACHING -- not only should the coaches have prepared and insisted players do the smart thing in the game, the even follow-up the mistake by condoning Clements stupidity and saying he just was holding the ball wrong -- idiots.
As much as the "three stooges front office" should share the blame, they did in fact provide enough talent (even at QB) to perform better than the team did. Once the season starts, its the COACHING/Game planning.
