Seriously? 7th round pick dude. The fact that he even had any resemblance of a career is a nice story.

This is a very subjective question, because the worst Niner to don a uniform is probably some practice squad scrub that no one can name and never saw the field and subsequently now sells insurance after two years in the league.

The biggest disappointments has to be Drukenmiller, Woods, Lawrence Phillips, Dexter Carter, Rumph, Kwame Harris, and I would even argue Balmer. Because they were all first round picks that failed and or embarrassed the team.

However if we are looking at recent history Alex Smith has hurt the franchise the most. Now I'm not an Alex Smith hater, I actually like the guy and think he has some talent. I'm not saying he will ever be a pro bowler, but I think he can be a nice QB in the league in the right situation. But when you combine the fact we passed up Aaron Rodgers for him, we have stuck with him for as long as we have, we have paid him as much as we have, and we have lost as much as we have. He has set the franchise back further then any of the aforementioned crappy players. Not all of it has been his fault, however you want to cut it though the pick of Alex Smith has set us back for the better part of a decade.

Although I hate the likes of Drukenmiller, Rumph, and Woods much more then Alex. All of them were easily replaced and none of them had the long term effect on us like Smith has.

Anyone who says Cortez really knows nothing about 49ers football. He is actually one of our better kickers all time.

Dude has our team record for consecutive field goals made. He only missed 2 game winning field goals while a 49er, and he redeemed one of them in the same game. The only major knock on him was he also got 2-3 kicks blocked.

I really don't know why zoners hate him so much. He is actually one of my favorite kickers all time. Extremely likable, great story (coming from the XFL, where he kicked barefoot).

And hello? He was followed a season later by Owen Pochman.

Your sir are the first ever Cortez defender I've heard from or met. While I may disagree with your opinion I sure as heck respect you for having the balls to say it....especially on the 'Zone. Out of respect for you I will say Long live Cortez!
Does nobody remember Sammie Davis? He was a former first-round pick the 49ers got the Chargers for Rashaun Woods.

He was absolutely awful. He blew the simplest assignments. Once, I saw him on outside containment, well positioned to force the play back inside. Instead of forcing the runner back inside, he let the runner get outside for a long gain. That summarized his playing ability.

If this is what you think, you need to do a little more research.

NOPE...............I'm positive
In reading the previous posts I see two different questions being answered. Who is the worst player or which player was the most detrimental to the team. I am going to attempt to answer both.

In terms of cost there are a couple of players that stick out. Obviously Lawrence Phillips missed a block that caused Steve Young to retire. Antonio Langham was signed for a lot of money to replace Rod Woodson. And Alex Smith was a 1 pick that went very wrong. Jim Druckenmiller was supposed to be our quarterback of the future. We passed on Vince Wilfolk to draft Rashad Woods. Looking at all these players I have to say that Lawrence Phillips and Alex Smith have cost the franchise the most. Both players set us back for numerous years.

As far as the worst player I would have to say that Jim Druckenmiller looked worse than any quarterback I have ever watched. Gabe Wilkins was pretty bad as well. Doug Brien could not make a clutch kick. Honestly Jim Druckenmiller stands out.
