Unsure but Nate Clements needs to go. I'm sick of his s**t.
I know it's not popular to say but I like Clements.... As the nickel CB. He is getting paid too much and will take a pay cut or GTFO lol. But he is a animal when it comes to tackling and matches up well with nickel sized WR's. Also who would be our CB's? Spencer, Brown, a free agent, a rookie? Starting Spencer or Brown is a joke. A free agent, who? At what price? A rookie? 2nd rounder at best, would starting him be smart? 1st rounder Joe Haden struggled on his first year.
My point is Clements should stay IF he takes a pay cut.
I would love to hear an educated Anti Clements response......
1. He cannot play man coverage
2. He is an inconsistent tackler (recall the Roddy White game last year)
3. He cannot keep pace in the slot, so although he has size over nickel/slot receivers since he cannot play bump and run his size is negated and he lacks the speed to run with them in the open field
I always thought Clements would be a better FS than CB, even when he was in Buffalo. Our secondary is a mess and frankly I'd like to see a draft ala 1981 where we essentially draft an entire secondary and start them as rookies.
Maybe #3, but not $1 and #2.
First he excels in man coverage, it's when he's in whatever Mausky's retarded zone scheme is that he has trouble. That's not to say he's great in man coverage, he's not the best, but he's pretty good.
Second, he's VERY good at tackling. That's his strength. Ya, he didn't make the play on Roddy White and he's not going to make every play, just like every DB that has ever played the game. They aren't perfect, that DB doesn't exist. EVERY NFL DB misses tackles and gets burned.
All those double moves Nate bites on comes when he's in man coverage not in a zone. i wouldn't say he excels at coverage. If that were teh case they could leave him on a island allday. I think his big problem was calling himself lock down. He's an average CB, just not elite or top 10.
Tackling should be Nate's strength because he allows a grip of receptions. So when the scheme doesn't put the safety on the sideline 10 yards behind Nate and Nate allows the 8 yard come back route, he better make the tackle or the guy is gone, a la Roddy White.

I used to like Manusky but we need someone who is smarter. Manusky has gotten a pass all season. The sole focus has been on (of course) Alex Smith and Sing and the offense. The defense is better than 2006 I agree but it's still not where it should be. We have no speed on defense and we never scheme properly it seems. If a team has a speedy RB and runs the screen effectively...we are fvcked. And I feel like every time it's a crucial 3rd and long situation...our defense buckles.
I say clean house. Bring in a proven winner at DC.

He's gotta go. Any DC who makes no effort to pressure the qb is too stupid to coach in the NFL.

Yep, he made one bad play so he can't tackle! That's how things work...

If Norv Turner gets the axe, can we get Ron Rivera to come here.

I disagree. Considering what we have at DB and our lack of a serious pass rusher, I think he's done a solid job.
