Yeah, I agree the new coach should be able to pick his own staff.

Quote:
York said he'd like to retain some of his assistants for continuity
That does not mean he will force these assistants on a new coach, he will probably make it known during the interview process this is what he would like and the new HC will still likely interview almost all to see if any mesh with his philosophy and whether or not he'd like to keep that continuity as well.
Let's not go making mountains out of mole hills.

f**k that mole hill s**t. Lets make some mountains. Jed is laying the groundwork for keeping Trent as GM, Tomsula as HC. Anybody can see this.

The Yorks have a long history here, and very little of it is encouraging. Does a Leopard change his spots? Despite hopeful optimism by many here of a bright future, I am skeptical.
Already the Yorks are doing York things - like firing a HC before the season is over. Jed said after the game he would not decide whether to fire Sing based on the emotion of the moment. So what does he do? He fires him three hours later.
While Jed professes the need to hire a GM, he should have figured this out and done it long ago. By appointing Tomsula as interim coach, by saying Baalke is in the mix for GM and for expressing the opinion that some of the assistant coaches should be retained, he may just be setting the table for more of the same mediocrity.
Sorry guys, but I am not hopeful for the future. These are the same guys who hired Donahue, Nolan and Singletary. Did they just get a brain transplant? Not likely.

In the case of Tomsula and Rathman, I agree with him. All of which is why he's saying once he hires his GM, he'll discuss the new head coach hire with him. While new head coaches typically do bring in their own staff, it's also not uncommon for some of the current staff to be retained. I'd say both Tomsula and Rathman might be among those.

If it's guys like Tomsula and Rathman, I have no problem with that. Our D-line is one our best overall unit, and RB is our best offensive group.
But if he's thinking about retaining Jerry Sullivan, GTFO.

I hope our new coach gives thought to retaining Manusky. I think we can be an elite unit if we get a legitimate pass rush threat.

The only people that should remain are Tomsula for the DLINE and Rathman for the RBs. Everyone else can GTFO.

Whoever the next HC is, I hope he brings with him a new DC, OC, QBC, and just about any other coach he wants. IF Tomsula, Rathman, Sullivan(puke) or Manusky want a job with this team, they should be prepared to take a lesser position.
