Singletary plays to not lose.
No dude he coaches to the best of his limited ability. draft picks foil and fold man.
Look at the falcons they have had that group for a while and they are putting things together and they are tough to beat. That is the same defense they had almost three years ago. Same for the Offense and they haven't gotten any decent picks they just keep working on their own progression. Who knows what the playoffs will do for our team.

This is why i don't wanna make the playoffs.
if we make the playoffs this year, its true we pick 21st at best, and we will lose by a wide margin.
but, Sing is going to get canned no matter what. Alex Smith cant save his job now. its done. he didnt show enough improvement. if hes back next year, its as a backup, or a temporary starter while a draft pick learns.
were going to hire a GM this offseason as well. I think Jed York has realized he needs to clean house, and this entire staff sucks. the writing has been on the wall all season, as coaches, players, and execs. have been walking out to avoid the axe.

Excuse me for my ramblings, but its no worse than the fact that I have to root for my team on my own fan board against my own team's fans.

Let's take all the politics out of football and say that hey even with my team's sub mediocre record I still want them to win no matter what week it is or what team. Besides what have High draft picks done for our team ever? Jerry, Montana, Steve, where all from the third round or below. Steve was in the Supplemental 2nd round for christ sakes.

Getting to the playoffs should only affect our draft positioning. What I mean by this is:
- Singletary should and still needs to be fired. Reason being it should have not come down to this, especially when the only reason we would get in is because of the NFC West ineptitude, not by own merit.
- A GM and/or VP of Football Ops needs to be hired. In turn, hiring a new coach and running the draft.

As soon as Spagnulo (sp) was hired by the Rams, I said he is going to be a good coach for them.
A few years later, its time for the product to show, and I think that he will definitely have them ready to play one of their best games to send themselves into the playoffs.
Even though we've had 10 days to prepare, this is a home game to send the Rams into the next level of the" pretty good" teams of the NFL. Im sure Sing doesn't have a clue on how to approach this nest weekend.
I say we pick 9th in April, and hope so too.
Playoffs

Sing couldn't be more wrong: this team doesn't deserve to go to the playoffs

We need to make the playoffs, our players don't play with that "winners fire" that you see the pats/ravens/steelers play with. They all expect to win, and know they can win.
Even in the games that we have a good game plan, our defense always looks intimidated/scared by the other team.
Lets go niners playoffs.
#21 is still a good enough pick to draft A DB.
Or maybe even Cam newton, for you QB GUYS...

I can't believe some fans think Simpletary won't get fired if we make the playoffs! Have you guys been watching the same season everyone else has? The archaic philosophies, the lack of adjustments, the poor communication between coaches and players, the worst clock management I have ever seen, a 5 word vocabulary at every press conference...it's VERY apparent to every rational observer in the universe that Singletary is not fit to be a head coach in the NFL. He is a limiting factor for this football team. He will be fired at the end of the season. No matter what.

I think we have a good chance to make the playoffs. Mainly 'cause the next two are division opponents Rams and Cards. This coaching staff is so inept. It seems to me, they are only familiar with the these opponents enough to put in a good game plan and adjustments. With the rest of the NFL they have no clue. How else do you explain 5-1 division record. Ok, NFC West teams sucks, but we played and looked good, and above all -- organized on the field most of the time we played them.

You forgot
~tougher opponents in 2011 (winners of NFC South and NFC North)

Theres just far too many variables with up coming draft picks to even be concern about where the 9ers place.
Whats closer and easier to figure out is the road the team is on now, and thats the two weeks ahead and possible playoffs, that should be first and foremost.
I say leave the offseason for when it comes around.

I like how nobody answers the original question! There are plenty of other "10 reasons why the 49ers shouldn't go to the playoffs" threads. I don't want this to be one of them. I for one support this current organization no matter how inept they are. Bottom line for me is, if the 49ers get in I will cheer my ass off for them.
