I am not defending Alex at all by saying that NO QB would trust Crabtree. He has sketchy hands, does not possess elite speed or quickness, and runs poor routes. Anyone who has played the game at all can see that.


Also it is obvious that VD is being double covered, and taken out of the game. I will admit that it seems as though Alex is not looking for for crabtree much. It is obvious that there is no trust in where he is going to be (justifiably so).


If Alex Smith is garbage then Troy Smith is hot garbage... still garbage.

You are crazy if you think VD would be behind Heap. VD is a beast in blocking and the passing game. I agree with crabtree though... he would be maybe 3rd or 4th.

I didn't notice much from Crabs last night, but it is always difficult for me to see how our receivers are doing on tv.

I did notice that VD had opportunities (albeit very, very few) where he had zone coverage with a single defender. There was a third and long play in the 3rd where SD was in a zone blitz. VD had a single zone defender on his right and open space on his left(which was the middle of the field). The replay showed VD stayed true to his seam route, but I am pretty sure if he just sat down to the right it would be an open area in the zone. Nearest defender would have been a corner back that moved upfield. Pretty sure VD would have a first down, but the play ended in an incompletion.

The break down is VD not reading and sitting in open areas of the zone. I know it is important to not break your route at times, but in blitz situations, don't you read the defense and make yourself available to the QB? Conversely, the QB needs to read the same thing. Maybe that's what a real QB/TE (11-85) connection should be; that they see the same problem and have the same solution?
