I mean, just think about it. Considering that each team has 6 games intra-division, the odds of no team in the division making it to 8-8 is very low.

People have been calling our division the weakest in the league for years now. The funny thing is we have represented the NFC in the superbowl more than any other division in the conference in the past 10 years. I understand the teams are looking really weak right now, but my point is once you are in the playoffs it is a moot point.

Agreed. I also think that those are the breaks. If a 7-9 Team gets into the playoffs so be it. I can remember missing the playoffs in 1991 as a 10-6 team. There wasn't a worse record in the playoffs that year but the point is 10-6 didn't get us in. The key is winning the division. NE missed in 08 with an 11-5 record while the 8-8 Chargers went in. That's just how it works. Say a 10-6 team misses with a 7-9 team in from the west then the spread is the same.

Exactly. It all evens out in the long run.
I honestly believe we lose all games except to Arizona. Which I've already comes to terms with. Besides it'll be more embarrassing to win this division then to lose it.

I think we have a fair shot at beating Seattle at home.

I do agree, but we just lose the close games. As much as I hate to quote Sing "we shoot ourselves in the foot." But then again, I could be wrong.

After all, maybe I should "take a look at the film." lol

We didn't think we'd open the season 0-5 so it's possible to finish 5-0.
wow...its almost probable that the niners go to the playoffs at 7-9 or 8-8...thats pretty shocking. the wins and losses needed are the likely ones...crazy
In the NFC I have:

1) Falcons
2) Packers
3) Eagles
4) 49ers 7-9
5) Saints
6) Bears
I'm only aware of one Playoff Machine.

Yes. A team entering the playoff's at 7-9 is an oddity, an outlier. It's so odd that it has never happened before. Is it worth changing the system to protect against every possible oddity occurring? Probably not. The system may not be the absolute fairest, but it works and works well. There are lots of things in football that aren't fair (like the rules that favor QB's, more passing etc.), sometimes it makes for better football to not go strictly off of being fair.

The fairest way would be to scrap the divisions and just go with the 8 best records or so. But, that would come at a heavy price because people rooting for poor, or mediocre teams would lose interest once it appeared there wasn't any hope of attaining one of those best records. It would take a lot of the excitement out of the game if they did that.

It's better to have the divisions and a champion from each, each team exists in it's own smaller world of 4 teams that way. It's manageable for the teams and for the fans, and it makes good football as teams have rivalry's that play out twice a year.

And they get to know each other well...they get each others number's and it forces them to play each other tougher....to move and countermove because you gotta go through them to get somewhere, so you gotta build to do that. Inter division football is the s**t....bad teams can show up and make a good fight with a good team because they know each other and are built to try and beat/counter each other. Hard to build a team meant to dominate 31 other teams, not so hard to build a team to dominate 3 others. Scrap that and throw everybody into the world of 32 teams, things could get hopeless for many fans early on the season and it would be very difficult to build a team that was a perennial contender against 31 teams instead of 3.

The fact we cannot get a winning record year after year in this crap-hole of a division even when everyone expects us to with all the talent we have makes me sad. I mean, how much suckier could we be? Imagine what our record would be every year if the teams in our division were actually GOOD.
