LOL he was a s**tty player to begin with that showed zero learning curve at the position (a total 'college' RB that was a 2nd/3rd string at best in the NFL).
Everything happens for a reason, and I'll take Anthony Dixon any f**king day over Glenn Coffee.

No i feel you. My point is not that he shouldn't have retired. My point is that his timing f**ked us and he should have retired before camp, and if he did, maybe Blount decides to stick around...

And if the dog didn't stop to take a dump, maybe he would've caught the cat.

we could have drafted leBlount in the 7th round---shame the Niners didn't---but I do like phillip Adams.
Coffee was not that good.

Life goes on. Blount wouldn't have had the same chances here as he did in TB. Besides tht he went to the Titans first who have Johnson and noone else who really touches he ball. He didn't make the cut there and then landed in TB. He would probably just now be getting off the practice squad to replace the third string back. If Westbrook cannot get on the field Blount had NO chance at all.

I get you. Timing is everything. I do feel however, that barring injury, we have a good 1-2 in Westbrook and Dixon. It's mostly on the O-line anyway.

In fact, I think it is a reach to put any blame on Coffee for Blount going to Tennessee.
I started to think about this last week at the Bucs game when we were getting ass raped by LeGerette Blount. When we signed him I was amped. Dude can play. He reminds me of a cross between Beanie Wells and Brandon Jacobs. So we sign him, he sees that he is in a crowded backfield and opts to go somewhere that he can comepete to be a starter. Good move on his behalf
But f**k man, Glenn IMO was selfish. Sometimes you have to put yourself first I know, but when you are part of a team and are going to quit on them, this is soemthing that HAD to have been brewing for some time. DO IT BEFORE TRAINING CAMP! I mean jeez, if he retires earlier, and is more decisive about his future, we probably still have Blount on the Roster, and probably STILL go after Westbrook.
Now that Gore is done, Coffee's poor timing really comes to light. This choice hurt our running game not only this season but possibly for the future in having dominant two headed monster for years to come in Dixon and Blount.
If he retires earlier, our RB situation is much different right now. You can't blame him for what he did, I mean its his life and he can do as he pleases, but f**k... looking back, it woulda helped to have made that decision a month earlier.
I just think the grueling camp of Singletary beat him down and he was like, "You know what? f**k this!" Well you know what Glenn... "f**k YOU!" f**k you for being the reason Blount didn't want to stick around. f**k you for being the reason that we have to rely on a concussion proned past his prime Westbrook and a Rookie that dances behind the line.
Let's be real, do you think Westbrook will run that well next week in GB? Dixon? lol come on... Just sayin man... Coffee f**ked us royally more now than we knew back then...
If we were contenders this season, oh wait we still are, than it would be sucking even more right now. So with aldo respect Glenn, GFY
BTW, Blount also did not stick with Tennessee so we see a situation where the alternative he chose was not a very good one either. Blount is a big bruiser who does not have a quick start. Once he gets going he can run over people but he could never do what Gore does, or what Westbrook showed last night. He is fortunate to be playing behind a very big, and very well-coached TB OL. For him to be playing behind the 49er line would not be a good combination.
As to Westbrook, he is not concussion-prone. He did have two concussions in the same season and both were from very hard hits. He proved last night that he can still do what he always did with Philly.
As to Dixon, he just needs some work which he will now get. Had Coffee stayed on the team, Dixon would likely be on the PS or picked off by some other team. As it stands, this is better for Dixon and Westbrook, and they will serve the team well.
So I get your concern but it is a bit over the top in blaming Coffee.

I know it's not ALL his fault... it's just that the timing was really bad. Almost as bad as Norv's timing in taking the SD gig.

Right now I think we are all very concerned about the impact of Gore's injury but that is football. Given what Westbrook has done in the past, and what he did again last night, I believe we can all relax a bit. A healthy Westbrook, used properly, will be just as valuable to the offense as Gore. In fact, we may look back and see a silver lining in all this because this may now force Singletary to allow Johnson to open up the offense much more than he would have with Gore. The result might not only be a more effective offense, but a better chance to analyze what Troy Smith can do.

He looked like he had a lot of work to do to play at the NFL level. I am glad he freed up a roster spot by retiring. Dixon looks a lot more explosive, and moves better for a big guy. They wouldn't have picked up a much better backup in Westbrook if Coffee didn't retire.
