Then we can run on every single play, every single game!

Yah, I love Woody, but I'm not sure there's much of a difference (other than skin tone) between Rathman and Singletary.

Let's quit with these ex players, and hire nerdy mastermind coaches.

For example

Mike Smith (Falcons) = Mastermind nerd
Bellicheck = Mastermind nerd
Sean Payton = Mastermind nerd
Andy Reid = big mastermind nerd
Mike Mcarthy = mastermind nerd

WE NEED NERDS!!! SMART, CREATIVE, PLAYBOOK GENIUSES.

Ex players have been hit in the head too much to be strategic in today's NFL.

Yah ex players just make for lousy coaches.

I meant philosophically and mentality-wise. Both are hard-nosed, blue-collar tough guys who telegraph the fact that they want to smack you in the face as opposed to out-think/out-manuever you (which is what this team is lacking).

I think there is. Rathman is very technical and values that more than anything which is what he learned under Walsh whereas Sing only learned powerball. Rathman has also improved our running game overall compared to 2007 and 2008.

He was a receiving full back and may want that incorporated along with more preciseness overall during practices.

Who cares, anything's better than Sing. Making M. Johnson the HC is no different than making Rathman the head coach as both were position coaches in Game 1.

Ok, you win....AIBTS!

(anything is better than Singletary!!!!)

I don't know, it's only for the remainder of the season until we hire a real one. As for telegraphing what they want to do, that was ONLY after Rathman got the ball. Prior to that, he has much more experience with intricacy, deception, and execution than does Sing.

It's not difficult to replace your losing head coach with an interim staff member AND continue with your long-term head coaching "due diligence" at the same time. If you find doing both at the same time difficult, you don't belong in the NFL, much less in the business world in general.

You should always be in a rush to fire incompetent personnel. If you're slow and indecisive in this area, you pay the price. But in particular, when an NFL coach shows this level of incompetence, you MUST fire his ass and not wait until the end of the year. Doing so only reflects poorly on you...it shows you to be just as incompetent if not more so (not to mention, tone-deaf and stubborn to the point of ignorance) for allowing things to continue as they are.

Just my take.

Oh, I couldn't disagree with you more. I could just as easily argue that firing a HC without giving him a chance to turn things around reflects just as poorly on ownership as what you are suggesting. Jed HAS shown decisiveness by firing Nolan when McCloughan and his parents wouldn't. It has come out already (that Singletary is on the hot seat-back when the 49ers were 0-5). Realistically the 49ers are going nowhere. However with this division being so dreadful, the 49ers are still mathematically alive for the playoffs. Once the 49ers get to 3-10, 4-11 it makes sense to start planning for next year (as far as coaching changes), but at that point, you might as well wait until after the season. How you treat your employees goes a long way in attracting top candidates from outside the organization. The best thing Jed can do is keep quiet, publically support Sing, while doing his homework on a Gruden, Harbaugh, Shurmur (Rams OC), etc.

You really think Jon Gruden or Jim Harbaugh is going to take this job, with no QB, and owners that fire their coach every 2 years?

Comparing him with Sing doesn't say much about Rathman!

You have to ask yourself why you want to fire your Head Coach, and what exactly is to be gained by making a move in week 11 of the season.

1.) On the job audition for HC? - Nope. It made sense for Dallas but not for us.
2.) Save your Head Coach from further humiliation? – This is a viable reason IMO. I don’t hate Singletary; I just want to replace him. Watching any man repeatedly embarrassed and beaten is no fun.
3.) Save the locker room, set the tone for next year? – I’m not convinced that the locker room needs saving or that firing the HC will have a positive impact on the players.
4.) Visceral, reactionary response to all the losing? – This is the worst possible reason to fire a coach IMHO. It lacks intelligence, direction, or planning.
5.) Throw a bone to the fans, show them that you’re going to make moves to fix things? – Playing to the rabble is the definition of poor leadership. The end of the season is only 5 weeks away. Do your homework, make your plans, lay the groundwork, and make your moves at the end of the season. If you make the right moves, the fans will be on board.
There is no Jason Garrett or Lesley Frazier waiting in the wings (......sorry Woody, MJ and Manusky), so we are stuck with the gas bag full of motivational sayings but no solutions till the end of the year
we will win and win a few more this season

and that will be enough for the ignorant owners to keep singletary and give us a worse draft pick

Unfortunatly that's probably what's going to happen. Tonight's game will tell alot, if the team is going to win a couple more games or if they'll tank the rest of the season.

If we get embarrased probably.

Who are you going to put in the interim role? There is not one person qualified.

Just ride out the season. Fire him the day after our last game. Hire a new guy within a week or two.

In fact, putting somebody in a temporary HC spot could hinder us. That person would almost certainly not be back next season. Let the new permanent HC evaluate the coaching staff and decide. Don't force his hand.

Firing Singletary at this point serves zero purpose.

Some of us 49er fans will say sing ist qualified so what would be so bad about taking a chance on one of our noob cordinators?
