And Mariucci also inherited a really strong team with a younger HOF QB and a stacked offense and defense top to bottom. Read why the Niners got rid of Siefert above. And please stop trying to make the ridiculous argument that Mariucci was a better or good of a coach as Siefert. Also, as you pointed above, Siefert actually had a hand in BUILDING those teams- Mariucci couldn't even manage TO and didn't build s**t. He couldn't even find a QB and Walsh had to save his ass after choosing to start Lawrence Phillips. If Walsh doesn't give Mariucci Jeff Garcia on a silver platter, Mooch doesn't have a winning record.

The Yorks fired Mariucci for non performance reasons. NON-FACT

Mariucci inherited a really strong team because it was built pre-Yorks. UNRELATED FACT

Fixed

I'd say Mariucci quitting just before halftime of the Bucs playoff game could be a "performance reason". I never cared for Mariucci, and for all the stupid things TO said at times, actually think there was some merit to his comments about Mariucci not wanting to run up scores and lack of "killer instinct". Granted there wasn't a great plan in place to replace Mariucci and Erickson was a disaster, but doesn't change my opinion of Mariucci.

A little ironic that TO might have played a role in Mariucci keeping his job...towards end of 1998 season rumors were 49ers very interested in Mike Holmgren, and Mariucci wanted contract extension which 49ers weren't moving real fast on.

If they would've lost again to Packers in playoffs, I think they likely would've gone hard after Holmgren, who had a clause in his contract which allowed a brief window of time at end of GB's season for him to find a HC/GM job...but TO made the catch, 49ers still in playoffs and Holmgren hired by Seattle day or two prior to SF @ ATL playoff game ...still hurts thinking about losing Hearst on 1st play which would've been long gainer if not TD!

It was all the sweeter considering when he first got the team in '77 he hired Joe Thomas as GM. That led to the firing of HC Monte Clark who did a decent job in his only season (1976), and to one of the worst trades in NFL history for OJ Simpson...about only good thing from that trade was they put grass back in at Candlestick so the Juice wouldn't have to run on artificial turf. But then Debartolo redeemed himself when he hired that Walsh guy from Stanford.

That's my thought as well but I agree no need to mention him.
Would you guys agree that Eddie has some pretty daughters?

Seifert was a niner for 16 years from 1980 -and 1996. He also inherited a team full of HOF players including two of the best QBs of all time and the greatest player of all time. What part of that is a fairy tale?

Mooch was 57-39 with four playoffs in 6 years then got Yorked. I consider that a winning coach for us. What part of that is a fairy tale?

I wouldn't question a 5 time HoF owner. What party of that is fairy tale?

One last thing .....

Siefert went to Carolina and won ... a lot and routinely beat the 49ers.

Mariucci went to Detroit and lost ... a lot.

Mooch left the 49ers and the 49ers lost...a lot.

Unfortunately

Mooch wasn't going to keep that team winning

Mariucci's time with the 49ers can be summed up by the Bears game in 2001. Up 31-16 in the 4th and ended up losing in OT 31-37. That was when T.O. said Mooch didn't want to run it up to badly on his friend Dick Jauron.

You didn't even address my questions, just danced around it with some nonsense and patted yourself on the back.
