Agreed above. Ginn hasn't done anything at all to have his spot solidified. I'm all for Ziegler over Ginn.

As for Mays? It was really clear that he needed more time before seeing the field. He hasn't made any plays himself so I'm not sure about all the clamoring for him.

My question is when does Ginn get a chance? I mean we run the 12 set all the time and the starters are Morgan - Crabtree. We only run the 3-wide when we're ridiculously behind.

IMO 12 personnel is our best formation and gets the best combination of players on the field. As it stands, Ginn is a just a one-trick pony whose only use is to run a handful of routes. When Ginn is on the field, it's almost a give-away as to what route he's going to run. I believe that it's now obvious why the Dolphins traded him for pennies.

I agree with your prior statement, Sullivan needs to go. Blah, this whole coaching stuff needs to be given their severance packages.

I have been a delanie walker hater because he fumbles every 2-3 games(he is due) but the 12 is our best package.

D walk, seems to be the only guy trying to get open at any given time.

Based on the way they are playing now, Crabtree would be a #2 on a good team and Davis is a good deep threat but continues to be slow to make the proper hot reads. None of the others would even make the roster on a good team. I have been preaching this all season long and today, against a good secondary, they were exposed.

I say this exposes Jerry Sullivan.
Either way, it doesn't matter.

Part of it are too many 2 WR formations and patterns that are far too easy to cover. This offense is STILL the terribly Pop Warnerish Jimmy Raye simpleton offense. That isn't all of it as a good receiver should still get separation 50% of the time. The good ones can't be covered one-on-one. Today Tampa didn't have to worry. They easily covered the sophomoric patterns of the 49ers.

Coach knows
why was Mays benched for Reggie Smith?? If anyone should have been benched it should have been Goldson's non playing ass. The only extension he deserves is to extend the bench under his ass.
Who cares anymore

We were in the middle of winning 3 out of 4 games and suddenly Boy Genius decides to take Ginn out of the 3 receiver sets and off punt duty, which he was doing a great job with in favor of Kyle Williams and Zeigler...oooh k. And then he takes out the rookie, Taylor Mays, who gave up a few big plays in the last few weeks but still shows a lot more range and willingness to go after the ball than Reggie Smith, who had a grand total of 1 tackle today. Compare that to Mays, who has had bunches and bunches since he got to start.

Why on earth would Singlebraincell make all these changes when we were winning games? Without Ginn out there, our receivers looked damn right slow on an all streak formation. Josh Morgan is like the new Arnaz Battle.

I couldn't disagree with you more. ginn is a wuss who did nothing in punt returns unless you count fair catches and always seemed to head for the sidelines on kickoffs. For all of his vaunted speed, I've yet to see examples of it. As for Ziggy for him, I'm all for it. inaddtn to the above, Ginn can't catch the damn ball, as he showed again in this game. believe me, we haven't been winning games because of Ginn, and let's face it, 2 in a row isn't exactly a streak.
AND, in th 4th quarter, when we absolutely had to get some scores, I was mystified when Smith actually targeted Ginn on several throws, all of which I believe went incomplete. With the game and probably the season, on the line, why in the world throw to a receiver who can't catch and is essentially gutless? although, in this game, Smith was so off target, it probably would not have mattered who he threw to.
As for Taylor Mays, he has sometimes seemed clueless, which is not uncommon for a rookie safety, especially one so ill-prepared for the pro game as Mays. Did you see that goal line stand where we had to burn a timeout because a Bucs receiver was left uncovered out in the flat? I'm pretty sure it was Mays' guy.
But hey, tis game was such an all-around cluster f$$k, that there was plenty of blame to go around, and it all started with the O-line. terrible blocking against a team supposedly weak against the run. Horrible pass protection! If Smith wasn't so mobile, the sack count could easily have doubled! Anthony Davis is making Kwame look like an All-Pro! and Sims showed his rustiness. Poor decisions and bad throws by Smith, who, granted, may have been more concerned with sheer survival. And the play-calling? A bomb on 4th down when we should have been more concerned with sustaining a very critical drive and just getting the first down? That was just one fo the most glaring head scratchers.
Oh, it goes on and on. One dumb-a$$ call after another. More penalties, blown assignments, inexcusable delays, crappy tackling........ Pathetic is too kind a word. As Ratto said in his article, keep Willis and Gore and start over, from ownership on down!!!! I just don't know if I can take it anymore. The old Joe Thomas years are starting to look better by the week! I feel like that crazy dude that shot his TV because Sarah Palin's kid made it to the next level on Dancing With the Stars.

Ginn hardly gets a chance to prove himself, much like our 3rd receivers for the past 6 years. He's like Ashley Lelie, but better. He has been a rock solid veteran presence on kickoff and punt returns. Lest we forget, a rookie's fumble on a punt return was a big reason why we lost to the Saints. I think after this year, it really is time to clean house. Save for maybe Greg Manusky. I think that the only reason why Singletary had some mild success was because of Mad Mike Martz balancing out his ancient offensive philosophy.
Ted Ginn sucks folks. The Niners actually gave up too much for him.

I agree, Ginn has Jackson (eagles) type speed yet he can't get open and just doesn't seem to play with the same hunger that he played with in college!

We need a true deep threat with speed!

IMO, I think Smith is playing out of position at SS, where hes asked to step into the box. I think he should be free to roam and play the center field. Too many times have we seen Goldson give up key 3rd downs, deep plays and whiff tackles. It doesn't take coaches film to see how badly this kid has been playing. As I've said before our two starting Safeties need to be R. Smith and T. Mays, Goldson shouldn't even be on the team next year.
Ted Ginn is GARDAGE at Wide Receiver. All he does is drop balls and he is scared to get hit. Zeigler is twice the receiver he is.

Imo every safety on the roster is a liability. They all can't tackle, and all allow defenders to get deep on them. And besides the Mays tip toe after the blocked punt they have all made 0 impact/big plays this year.

Don't don't have a problem with R.Smith playing more, but it should have been for Goldson. Singletary loves to watch tape, but he can't see Goldson hasn't forced any turnovers this season or had any PD the last 5 weeks.
