Yea we learned that Alex at least has the knowledge to dump the ball off to the RB. Alex was the most hit QB in the NFL but he wasn't the most sacked in the NFL. Troy has been sacked 10 times in the past 2 games.

This was all coaching. The Niners have the worst blocking scheme in the world. If you decided to tackle Gore 50% of the time without looking at the offensive formation, you would have a successful defensive game plan vs. the Niners.

It's ALWAYS been.

Alex has done what was asked of him but it put us behind in just about EVERY game he's started. Now Troy is having to put up with the same garbage. When we used Play Action we're successful more often than not. But when we don't and we adhere to a conservative game plan our QBs' look inept. It's NOT the QBs'. Never had been regardless of what people have said. It doesn't help when they throw a pick but c'mon, most of those come from when we're behind and the QBs' end up over compensating to make something happen.

I want Alex back in to give him a legitimate shot to catch on with any team once he leaves here. This team OWES him that much. As much sh!t as he's had to put up with? Another guy that needs to Start is Snyder over Rachal. If Davis is to have any chance of finishing out the season strong he can't be put next to a liability. Rachal is a liability at this point. May be better later on but this season is a wash for him.

why would u put Alex in????????? Alex had 6 seasons to prove himself so shouldn't Troy get atleast the remainder of this season???? It would be absolutely insane to put Alex back in there. GIVE TROY A SHOT!!!

It is humerous reading the posters who couldn't stand Alex because of his crappy here all these years.

Some of us tried to explain that much of Alex's struggles came from predictable playcalling, intense pressure due to a bad OL, sub-par receivers who couldn't run good routes, couldn't get separation, and couldn't catch. Also, the dumb penalties. But, no. It was because Alex just wasn't any good.

Now that their guy Troy struggled today, these same people have suddenly noticed that our playcalling is bad, our OL can't block, and our receivers can't get separation. Unbelievable! Hell, there were no lost fumbles by Gore or Delaney today and very few holding penalties. Yet, Troy couldn't get them close enough for a FG.

I hope Troy remains the QB, and I hope Alex has the sense to escape from this circus and go to a team that knows how to put together a professional offense. He deserves it.

Oh so you learned today that Coaching is the problem, yet Troy Smith should be the starter even though he takes stupid chances with the ball and got away with it cause he "better than Alex"?

When your coach tells you to play a specific way you DO it. Troy did it and we got our 1st Homefield donut in 33 years.

Maybe the demotion will have lit a fire in Alex? Things like that have happened to worse QBs' in the history of the game.

Just face it this team sucks. Might as well go down swingin instead of goin down bound and determined not to let the team Captain back on the field. Sorry if you don't see that but I don't give a crap about the "It" factor. Teams have film on Troy Smith now and they know about our tendency to adhere to the Bell Cow philosophy against Defensive minded teams. At least Alex can run 2 minute drill and call his own plays when the calls aren't coming in fast enough. I bet giving the job back to him pans out better than relying on Troy at this stage of the game.

I mean how many times can this team play from behind and Win? Seriously.

Learn how to count. Alex has had 4 seasons to prove himself.

Ultimately however, the coaching staff keep chaining our Offense to the outhouse. And incredibly everyone blames it all on the QB.

Alex Smith was sacked 13 times in the 7 games he started. He earned the nickname Captain Checkdown because the OLine was so poor and the WR's never got open. Enter Troy Smith who has been sacked 11 times in 3 games. He holds on to the ball entirely to long because he is "waiting" for one of our WR's to get open which rarely happens. The Bucs took away Troy's big plays by confining him to the pocket where it is difficult for him to see behind the OLine. I'm not calling for Alex Smith, just stating facts.

Sadly this is 100% true. And I hate that our team has become a Dynasty of perennial losers. I now know how Packers fans felt back in the 80s' into the 90s'.

people didn't see that as a problem he had to deal with...usually he was blamed for it because "he cant make plays" or "all he does is check down" or "he just rolls right and throws it away"

He go nothing from this staff and was blamed, booed, and cheered when he was not able to play.

That might be true for a few fans, but I think most hated how he never took chances, had no touch and poor accuracy. That was the issue.

Alex never took chances cause the Coaches wouldn't let him. Now that their jobs are on the line they let the QB take chances. Oh wait, they let Troy Smith take chances. They're using Alex as the scape goat and the koolaid guzzlin fan base swilled it down without question.

All the fanbase cares about are Wins. Funny thing is there will be a bunch of people here in this thread stating "Troy has a better Win percentage" and waiving it around like a banner of truth.

Well let's see, we played 3 bad teams over that span and he has two Wins in his 3 stints as Starter. But make no mistake we SHOULD have lost all 3 games. Troy Smith COULD be a gamer with a little seasoning and learning how to play the position. But not on this team he won't. It's a miracle that Alex Smith has come as far as he has with a deck so stacked against him.

But yeah Troy Smith has better Win percentage. Too bad his Red Zone percentage is crap.

I can picture it now, the play calls into Nate. It's Trips RIGHT 523 slant. Nate Davis looks to the left for the receivers and gets confused.

You start Alex, of course. We saw troday that with a little preparation, opposing teams will not have too many diffculties defending against Troy Smith. The guy is too short, plain and simple, and cannot throw from the box. Many of his passes are tipped. This means that he hs to roll out (right, every time) and the Bucs were ready for that.

I was excited about his play after the first two games (I saw him play in London), but he got flat yesterday. Some will say that he had a bad game. I do not think so. The Bucs had film to look at (Sing is not the only one ;-)) and were well prepared for Troy's play.

Put Alex back in. He would have done better yesterday.
