Troy Smith Highlights

Someone created a video on Smith's first two games as a Niner and posted it on youtube. Obviously, this is the type of vid opposing defensive coordinators will review over and over. If you were the defensive coordinator of one of our upcoming opponents, how would you game plan against Smith? What does he do well? What does he not do well? How will you attack him and contain him? If I were a defensive coordinator, there are a few things I'd keep in mind: 1. Smith is mobile. Whether it's a designed play or the play breaks down, Smith can use his feet to make a play. 2. Smith has arm strength. The ball leaves his hand with zip. Not only that, he is accurate and can hit a receiver down the field while running out of the pocket. 3. Smith has vision. He can go through his progressions and find the open receiver. He can also "feel" opposing defensive players and move around in the pocket to avoid being sacked. 4. Smith is cocky. This is the first real success as a starter that Smith has experienced in the NFL. His confidence level is through the roof and the Niners', who are in desperate need for a capable qb, are falling in line behind him. Please keep in mind this is focusing solely on the qb position. The jump in skills and intangibles from Troy to the other QB's is so aparent when you watch all the plays together like that.

We are a whole different offense with Troy at the helm. Dangerous, explosive, so many weapons.

All our upcoming opponents have to be crapping there pants wondering how to cover everybody.

Damn! Anytime I'm having a bad day I'm just gonna look at Troy Smith highlights!

That was awesome!

The difference between him and the one who shall not be named is he looks for the big play while being aware of the checkdowns and his protection (for the most part). And he actually trusts his protection, regardless of how good it is, and lets the players get open instead of taking the easy way out and checking it down everytime he feels a breeze. Also, he's not scared.

It was a very smart throw as the defender didn't look back and the fact that the defender was the SOLB.
