You guys are dreaming if you think Alex Smith will re-sign with the 49ers, especially if Singletary is still the coach. Troy Smith will probably bounce too. Now if we get a legit GM and coach who understands how to manage a QB, then the Smith's (and other free agent QB's) will probably be lining up to stay.
That said, Alex should try a change of scenery, maybe it will help him. He's still young enough to turn it around

Sorry guys, I am not sold on TROY Smith. I have to always ask, if he was not good enough to be the Ravens back up, then why is he good enough to be our starter??

Get Rid of Alex, Carr and Davis. Alex isn't in the long term plans, Carr throws javelins instead of footballs, and Davis is only intriguing because of a few preseason throws. I could maybe see keeping Davis, but honestly I would get rid of him and use that spot to develop a better project QB.
So yeah I refuse to accept your question.
Here's hoping for Troy Smith to keep putting up 300 yd games for the benefit of my Fantasy football team!

I think that there can be at least an argument that T. Smith was slated to get the starting nod last season before the illness. Then With Flacco playing so well Smith became expendable. Good QB's get released sometimes. I'm not sold on him yet because I haven't seen enough, but not because some team let him go.

bad logic. there are PLENTY of backup QB's who turned out to be really good, to everyone's surprise. Backups by definition don't get much visibility until they actually play.

I don't see why it's so lame. David Carr DOES need to go though.
But it's a good question of whether we keep Alex Smith and/or Nate Davis.
Alex Smith can probably be a starter somewhere in this league, but he needs a new start. His best shot would be to back up a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady and then replace them when they retire. He'll have a few years in the system and learn from some of the best. THAT is the best situation for Alex.
However, if Alex is willing to be a backup for us, he'd have value. He'd be a backup that knows the system, OC, and players very well. He'd have time to just develop and learn the offense.
Nate Davis on the other hand, he has a lot of upside, but a steep learning curve. He plays similarly to Troy Smith as well.
I would personally draft a QB in the upper/mid rounds. If we draft a little higher, dump Alex. If we draft a little lower, dump Nate.

alex for sure. We need to cut our loses and get him out of SF. Hopefully we can cut Carr as well and promote Nate Davis as our #2. Then in the draft we should get somebody in the 2nd or 3rd round like Stanzi or somebody like that.
