a 3-6 record doesn't quite reach the success threshold. But if you are referring to the last couple of wins, the answer is Troy Smith.

We aren't quite successful just yet. However, the most responsible was Alex Smith for saying "I would play if it were flag football", allowing Troy Smith to get another start against the Rams and prove how much Alex sucks!

Lady Luck is the reason for our success
A hail mary type pass to Walker v. Denver
Converting 4th and 18 to stay alive at home v. Rams
Those are not high success type plays
I'm enjoying the ride and it is always better to be lucky than good....but we aren't dominating people so I honestly have no idea if we can keep winning

Johnson.
Look at our record before he was OC and after.
If Alex isn't injured against the Panthers, I still think we win. If we had started Troy, I think we would win.
Raye: 0-3
Johnson: 3-3
Our only two blowouts were with Raye. Every other game was close. I think Johnson didn't really start getting into the groove with his play calling until we played Carolina, though.
So, it's this and the fact that the first five games were against better teams.

I still haven't seen the Rams game but I would prob say Smith and Johnson. It seems the deep passes are being hit more consistently and we're calling plays that we were too scared to before. I dunno tho..I really need to see the Rams game.

I think Johnson's done a great job of maximizing the play calling when Singletary isn't meddling. There's a visible line of demarcation when you compare what Johnson's running when he's in the flow of the game, and what Singletary wants Johnson to run when the space ship gets going to fast for him. Even when Alex was in there, it looked like we were starting to get a little more aggressive every subsequent game.
Confidence breeds success, but I'm sure that's a proverbial 2 way street. We seem to do everything bass ackwards anyway, so why not win 1st and then get confident afterwards. Singletary can't keep pulling back on the reigns forever; the team is starting to feel good about themselves again and this should be enough to get him to relax and focus on his responsibilities as a game manager instead of projecting that role onto his offense.
Not to take away from what Troy's done though. The guy's fearless and I really do think we got lucky. I'm not sure he ever would have got in there had Alex not been dinged, but I feel that Johnson's style is getting much more out of this offense as a whole. The team will benefit more and more as the restrictions on the OC and his QB fade. (Fingers crossed)

How could this not be 100% Troy Smith? Play calling is limited to how much the coaching staff trusts the QB. Please next time drink the 12 packs during the game and after. You guys cracking beers before the early game pregame shows are missing something.

Troy Smith is just playing well against low competition. He's the only real difference along with the lower level of competiton on the schedule lately.

The success is all coming from Mike Johnson, I think even Alex would have led us to our last two wins, in fact if he hadn't got injured we would be on a 4 game winning streak. (would have beat the panthers)
