Agree with you. This is just ANOTHER statistic that backs up the fact that we underutilize Dixon and Westbrook.

But to be fair, we've been better at running the ball in recent weeks.
If Frank Gore is hot and running well, we should keep giving him the ball if he's fresh.
Of course, if Frank ISN'T running well, like in the beginning of the season, then we need a change of pace.

agree, but somehow we have a penchant for having rookie running backs that look STUDLY in preseason but look pretty ordinary in the regular season (Dixon). Westbrook in his limited play doesn't look that great either, but clearly he needs to get a lot more time on the field.

Dixon has looked pretty good on his limited carries

yea..i dont like to live and die by Gore. What happen to this balance that Mike Singletardy was talking about? Sure Gore runs well, but GORE ALONE can not get us into playoff contention, especially if that is what Singletardy believes we can do after a dismal start.
He hasn't given us anything he promised...Balance, Physical team (it's debatable), and WINS!! Now its looking like we will not get playoffs.

Dixon has only had 9 attempts, and in those 9 attempts he should have another TD and 10+ yards that were negated by a Joe Staley hold that didn't even affect the play.
Give that back to him and he has about 30 yards on 9 attempts with 2 TDs. Don't forget we ran him 3 times in a row up the gut when the defense was waiting for it because Singletary apparently doesn't think it's that big of a deal to get a first down towards the end of the game to preserve a lead. Everybody and their grandmother saw that coming and not even Frank Gore could have done much with those carries.

Remember, how all of us said if we want to be a smash mouth team we will need to use a 2-3 RB system. I know Gore is hard to take off the field but coming into this season we should have had and UTILIZED
1. Gore
2. Short Yardage/relief back
3. SCAT Back
We really could have used a guy like Best or McCluster. Bring some speed and get the defense not gearing up on the inside run. Get them worried about the outsides. That being said if we drafted a SCAT back we probably wouldn't have used him anyways.

I just hope Westbrook sticks around for another year (without Sing) so that we could really unlock the potential of a 2-back system (ala NYG).
Sing blows.........

I don't think anyone is wrong here. Dixon has either looked quick, shifty and powerful or, as was the case last week, old, tired and plodding.
Will the real Dixon kindly step forward?

We suck lol. How can we have a healthy looking westbrook and have him show flashes and not use him... Dixon reminds me of Barlow.

Exactly against Carolina his carry killed that drive. The play was blown up but he made it worse by just running backwards out of bounds. Then last week his 1st carry he was doing way too much dancing trying to bounce it outside. Only time in real games can cure that though. One good run he had was called back by a holding penalty. As for Westbrook this team just isn't smart enough to really use him in any way. They just aren't that good at running to the edges. And they use him so little that when he does come in the game the defense keys in on and watches out for the screen. But with that said Frank has been lights out the last 2/3 weeks.
