A 1% glimmer of hope. No matter the talent on the field the coaching staff doesn't know how to utilize it. When the talent ages the front office won't know how to replace it, and know how to fill the holes we need now. With out a better support staff the franchise will have a ceiling of mediocrity.
People seem to forget we need the Rams and Hawks to lose...... They have been playing well

No. Just false hope.

Need:

~ New owner.
~ New HC
~ New OC.
~ Better QB.
~ New secondary.
~ Consistent pass rush.
~ New RG.
~ Better RT play.
~ Speed at WR finally for the first time in almost a decade.

Then we are headed in the right direction.

Aren't we leading the league in penalties as well?
Lets put aside the fact that this board does not give the coaching staff credit for anything, and puts blame on it for Everything. There are plenty of positives and evidence going into the second half of the season that we are going in the right direction, and can still make the playoffs.

We finally have a leader at the QB position, someone who knows how to settle guys down in the huddle, and make the o-line appear to be better than it actually is. (In that Denver game, despite having a predominant running gameplan, he still managed to throw the ball to 6 different receivers).

Frank Gore is still able to move the chains when we need to for the most part, and put our offense in manageable third downs, which was the goal coming into the season.

Manny Lawson is finally coming into his own, and not completely disappearing in games as he was prone to do earlier in his career.

The coaching staff will undoubtedly open up the offense more now that they see how efficient Troy Smith was in limited snaps.

We've won 2 out of our last 3 games, and the team has bonded during the trip to London.

Our schedule is still one of the easiest in the league, with two good barometers of our progress in matchups with the Buccaneers and the Packers.

The players have yet to quit on or disparage their coaching staff, unlike in situations like Minnesota, Dallas, and Denver.

Get back on the Niner optimism bandwagon before its too late!
In order of importance:

1. Better HC
2. Better QB because no OC wants to coach a team with crap at QB
3. That's about it.

4. A defense that can actually stop a 3rd and 50 yards play.

If Troy Smith leads the Niners past the Rams, I will be drinking the kool-aide!
question for u fellas:

dont you think singletary should have gone for it on that 4th and 1 at the end of the bronco game??? if u make it which u probly will, the game is 110% over no doubt about it...we'd just kneel on it. even if u dont, its not like the fact that they're in field goal range does anything....theyd still have to get a td on a very good red zone D, theyd still have to get a 2 point conversion, and theyd still have to score in OT. if we were only up 2, then ya, i can understand punting....but up by 8, we should have gone for it

it comes down to whats more likely:

stopping a 4th and 1 AND going 25 or so yards for a td AND scoring a 2 pt conversion, AND winning in overtime

or

going like 60 yards for a td

its gotts be the latter right????
Ask me again in another 8 years, since you know, rebuilding is supposed to take almost a decade.
There should be a single thread for all newbie posts, lock all the rest.

Wayyyyyy to early...Not only do I need to see more from Troy also how we use him and a change in Offensive philosophy...

It is midway through the 3rd(technically 2.5) season with Singletary and his offensive philosophy hasn't changed yet so why would it now. We run the ball after we run the ball then we run some more.

Man,,one win against the worst team in the league drives people crazy I guess.

No..we're not headed in the right direction. Until this team gets an identity that actually fits its personnel we'll still be rowing with one paddle.

We'll lose after the bye and get back to reality.
