Just an odd season, from start to finish. I just have no idea what this team is doing in any way, so it is worthless for me to speculate on anything regarding any issue. I guess I officially give up. Probably the most unpredictable team in NFL history (and not in a good way).

Heitmann was the unquestioned starter at center within three weeks of the opening game. During training camp, before the leg broke, he took one afternoon off to rest. Baas and Wragge split the reps. Furthermore, Heitmann was named team captain by the coaching staff.

The leg injury is self-explanatory. However, now that the leg has healed, we get mixed information on the other "injury". I thought it was his neck, which was an unreported injury in training camp (according the Niners). Now, it appears that his back needs to heal. Tomorrow, I expect a breaking story on an ACL, and maybe next week he will have a broken colarbone.

Balmer, Coffee, Lewis, Spikes, Heitmann, Robinson. Just so much oddity for one team in player personnel matters.

i would rather they put Heitmann on IR if he can't play than have him take up a roster spot. I feel bad for Heitmann, he's a good player, but its pointless to keep him active if he's not going to play. I don't really see the problem here--though I agree in general with our assessment of the management of the personnel.

They have to re-sign Baas, he's been playing real steady and is alot more athletic than Heitmann.

I glad to hear I am not the only one that is frustrated trying to figure out this franchise. That hasn't stopped me from speculating...

This neck/back deal is just out of nowhere. I can't imagine that they haven't known about this and been treating it. More craziness.
it's not a big surprise that sing wanted to clear a spot for another linebacker...if sing could, he would fill all the 22 positions with linebackers.

Humorous but one of the reasons a 3-4 is technically a better defense than 4-3, it gives one more linebacker and one less DL on the roster = better special teams as LBs are generally more mobile and quicker than DLs.

It's a legit injury to Heitmann, I read it was spinal in the neck area
which could be a career ender

Though i can understand those that are suspicious

with him becoming a free agent, I think he has played his last snap for the Niners and maybe the NFL, I read somewhere that he wants to coach, and I bet he will be a fantastic coach

Thanks for your services as a Niner and giood luck with your future endevours

Gibson could be a great pickup, surprised Pitt let him go
from what ive read, fans are po'd about it

don't get me wrong, i am not against this sign at all...the guy was drafted by blitzburg and i think that the steelers know what they are doing. but why are u talking about the scheme and d-liners???
and i didn't think about the value for the special teams, when i posted it.
Much as it sucks not to have Heitmann playing this year, it was also an opportunity for Baas and he's made the most of it. Sometimes things happen for a reason...maybe this was one of them. I wouldn't mind seeing Eric compete for RG...still not anywhere near sold on Rachal. Snyder's our best option there right now...hopefully he gets the starts. Chilo's one player Singletary seems overly stubborn about...and that's hurt our OL. AD can benefit by having a solid RG next to him...

My humor was directed at the idea that Singletary loves linebackers, and for good reason.

The point about 3-4 was only to point out that it gives some more versatile ST players than a 4-3. It is just a matter of roster makeup. You sound like you got that already.
