Is this team worst than last season or just lack or progress?

Lack of progress would mean that they would be at the same level as last year...they are not, they have regressed considerably especially on defense, I have concluded that MS is putting first mark on the defense also. The offense is stagnant due to MS philosophy.

Ask me again at the end of the season since we will have completed division play. Remember last year we were 5-1 in our division. If we can repeat this feat, our record can still mirror last seasons. If that is the case then nothing would have changed. Can't win outside the division. Congrats to the SF Giants. Way to go and show the Yorks how championship ball is played.

No, we were out coached in every game. We are just too talented to lose them all.

I think we have a case of lack of progress in our game planning because there doesn't seem to be ANY new plays for this year. I would attribute that to a regression in the coaching. Just a few things that point to sub-par coaching:

1. Penalties (lack of discipline)
2. Lack of ADDITIONAL tactics and schemes on either side of the ball (opponents game plan and adjust well to us)
3. Terrible communication on the sidelines (personnel, getting plays in, sideline arguments)

Honestly this team is very similar to last year's team. The difference was that last year our defense came up with a lot of turnovers and generally played well. That isn't happening this year. Our offensive deficiencies are roughly the same, though our offensive line is playing more inconsistently than last year with two rookies starting. Our special teams, however, are much improved.

Again, its lack of progress, which you can place squarely on coaching, IMO. Sing & Co did not evaluate this team's deficiencies enough in the offseason. While I think we did a decent job in the draft and free agency at addressing the talent level on this team, there is a philosphical stagnation on this team that has really held it back. Also, this team was overconfident coming into this year, and Sing has been unable to manage expectations and disappointment.

i think there is way too much more hype to our team and not enough credit given to the other NFC teams...

This team is not better or worse than last year. They are exactly the same, thanks to Singletary. His offensive "vision" has been, and will continue to be, a handicap for the Niners.

It doesn't matter who the QB is. Doesn't matter who the OC is. This team will continue to be mediocre AT BEST as long as Sing is the HC.

I'm already looking towards next season....With any luck, Jed will be able to find a HC that isn't afraid to let the OC call an aggressive game.

When a head coach's QB is turning the ball over like Smith was, just what exactly is a coach suppose to do? He's stuck with a backup QB that he knows sucks, and a third string QB that barely knows the playbook. What adjustments could he have made? What else is there to do other than make sure Gore gets the rock more to keep it out of Smith's hands?

Its become mindless (imo) to constantly bash Singletary, when everything he's done up to this point makes perfect sense.

I believe Singletary's overall emotional intensity is a MAJOR distraction to the players. Instead of playing free and loose, they look like they are tighter than a drum. When you have a coach who is always yelling at the officials and at players, it is hard to relax and play this very violent game.

IMO, the difference between this year and last is all on the tactical side. The emotional intensity Sing injected last year was a bit of a novelty, and it did help to motivate certain players. However, that can only go so far. It has now run the gamut and there is nothing left in terms of new tactics and strategy that will help the players win...and that has been obvious from the start of camp.

Edit: You've captured something that I've been trying to articulate since last season. Every December we see college bowl teams come out waaaaaay too revved up and lose to inferior teams. The performances of those choking teams are invariably marked by the sort of nonsense that has dogged the Niners: dumb penalties, a failure to execute simple tasks, more dumb penalties, a tendency to over-commit, and yet more dumb penalties. The fact that this team is quite often only as good as it was on the preceding play indicates, to me at least, that they're walking on egg shells during the game rather than easing into that pleasant zone of "doing not thinking" that all athletes know so well.

Singletary's motivational style is a lot like feeding an elementary school student a jelly donut and a bowl of sugar flakes for breakfast and then expecting him to sit still and be productive in class.

No need to make any more threads like this because nOOb, Member or Vet, we all know what the fcken problem is - Coaching and Q.B
