Even though it was a horrible read on Smith's behalf it was the most accurate pass he could have thrown in that situation. That's gotta count for something.

He had Champ Bailey and Dawkins (I believe) guarding him and Delanie just made a great move on the ball.

Again, simply luck, but we'll take all the luck we get from here on out.

he told him to go deeper and thought he could get it there. He under threw a little cause of the falling back part and ended up getting lucky.

players that attempt to make a play have the chance at least for luck to win out.

When Alex is flushed out rolling to the right he usually keeps running to the sideline without looking up field then at the last second throws a ball down the right sideline---usually out of bounds. Whenever I think of Alex this is what I think about---since I see that occurrence every game--and many times in every game.

Even though Troy Smith was rushed now and then--I never really felt he was under duress like we see with Alex most of the time.

I think Troy has earned another start against the Rams.

WTF? Yes, Montana threw it where only his man could catch the ball. It was perfect. Smith threw the ball 50 yards off his back foot to a covered (blanketed, watch where they are when you can first see Dawkins and Walker, Dawkins is on top of him) with help from Champ Bailey. NOTHING about the fact that the defenders didn't make the play they would make 90% of the time in the same situation has any bearing on Troy's decision or throw. Just because it went for a positive doesn't mean it wasn't a horrible decision. That is the definition of LUCK. When you make a poor decision and it still turns out with a good result.

I'm sure that went into Troy's decision making process in the split second he threw the ball. Sure, you're right, if intercepted it may have ended up being like a good punt, but it may not have and could have been a lot worse.

I have said this before about Alex Smith, people always point to his stats to show he is not awful, that statistically he is average, or better. Alex lacks the intangible elements, confidence, leadership, and luck.

I saw all the intangibles on display yesterday, and it was great! Troy may or may not pan out but yesterday, his courage, skill, and luck gave me confidence in him and this team, and I an sure our players felt it too!
