Grade OC Mike Johnson vs. the Denver Broncos

D+

Too many runs up the middle. We are wasting the talents of Gore. Troy Smith had to win this on his own. We must free Troy Smith!
Definitely a C-. Came dangerously close to blowing this game. Unbelievable to run THREE straight (typical) run plays up the middle with 2:55 to go. Singletary trying to play keep away almost cost the victory. Play calling needs to get better though. We have a QB with Athleticism in Troy. We must use his abilities.

why don't we rename the thread in "grade the offensive playcalling ..." so that we haven't to discuss who we should blame for the 3&x draws.
it's a matter of fact that our playcallings were bulls**t for long periods today...if u wanna win a football game, then u have to surprise the opp...won't work if u try to run the ball on the first over and over again.

i gave the playcalling a D+ b/c of the one or another deep throw. otherwise it would be a F.

I understand some of the reasoning behind the gameplan, but it was too stubborn and one-dimensional for most of the game and was terribly inflexible and uncreative when the game called for "situational adjustments." When it opened up a little in the 4th quarter it looked okay.

I can't improve on that analysis.

This
Mike Johnson officially replaces the 49ers favorite play on Rayes playbook. Johnson replaces it with a shot gun draw. It used to be the I formation run in the middle. I'll give him a D+. So many opportunities to keep the drives alive and he went Raye gun on us.
Epic Fail. You have a QB that doesn't have happy feet, showed you early in the game he could improvise and you consistently kill drives with run up the gut again and again and again and again. I have never been this mad after a win.
D

Frank did hit 100 yds but on about 30 carries. And pretty much all the carries were straight up the middle. No creativity whatsoever. The only reason we won was because he was forced to actually pass in the end.

Seems like he's got a couple tricks but they're just for practice lol. I don't know if it's Sing holding him back or what but they need to do something.
If Mike Johnson started throwing the ball around, and Troy Smith threw a single pick, Singletary would have been all over him.

A quarterback who has only practiced for half a week with the team is going to be protected. Especially on this team, especially with this coach.

You can't throw this game on Mike Johnson's shoulder's. Next game, it'll be more fair to throw it more onto Mike Johnson because by then Troy Smith will have had two weeks to practice.

tough to give him a grade, since we dont know if the HC is telling him to do certain things

Kinda like if you were playing chess, and you had to listen to someone looking over your shoulder telling you what to do, and that someone has never played chess
I bet Sing had some "input" on a few of those 3rd and 8's

Uhhh

30 for 100 is a 3.33 avg. He had 29 for 118, a 4.1 avg. You fail.
I wanted to give him a D but he did use playaction to our advantage alot and it seemed to work. I wonder how much of this power running game is dingleberry's doing in critical situations like 3rd down. We all know Frank is a beast and will get his, but draw plays on 3rd and long are just plain embarrassing. I do like the imagination on the end around we ran with Ginn. Ginn needs more touches IMO.
moran norris shouldn't have gotten that snap!!

Gore had a few outside runs, and some that looked designed to go outside that he cut back on

Looks like he gets behind Iupati and then chooses which side to take
not a bad idea

Gore has reached 100+ rushing yards in each game for the last 3 weeks! (149, 102, and 118)
