How is RT Anthony Davis doing compared to other 2010 First Round OT's picked?

He's gonna get the QB killed if he plays the left side like he plays the right side. At least in the right side, the QB can see AD whiff on his block and protect himself as he's getting hit.

Come om now. We have seen evidence on our own team that putting the player at the proper position on the line can make all the difference in the world. Simms sucked ass at rt in the 08 season. I mean worse than Kwamee Harris bad, yet last season when he filled in for Staley on the left he played starter good.

Possible that Davis just feels more comfortable on the left. I hope that's the case, cause I personally don't like Staley on the left. He is decent at best imo.

True but one reason i think they leave Staley on the left side is b/c he can't run block. Putting him on the right side will fully expose that and really hamper the running game. But maybe a switch will help Davis. they need to do something, but they won't. I mean they still think chilo is a starter in this league. .

I'm not giving up on the guy after 7 games. I think the whole team is just lethargic and going through the motions at this point. How the hell did we go 8-8 last year?

I read recently where Mike Johnson said we have one of the most complicated OL movement schemes in the NFL (which, incidentally, was the reason he cited for not getting Westbrook involved more - he said those schemes take a long time to learn). If we have so many rookies and underperforming players on the OL and we are underutilizing Westbrook because of the scheme, why not simplify our OL movement patterns? There must be a reason the rest of the NFL doesn't run movement patterns as much as we do, and right now, we should be learning from them, not the other way around!

That's the same as us running the same formation over and over again (think I-formation with Morgan going in motion to block at the end). Everyone will know what the play will be from the get go! You have to change it up once in a while.
I thought the dude played pretty good besides giving up that play that Smith got smashed.

Yup, and if I remember correctly, Staley was pretty darn good at RT his rookie year. I hope next season Davis is at LT with Staley at RT.

No he wasn't.

He gave up 8 sacks in his rookie year on the right side. When he moved to LT, he then gave up 8.5 sacks. Both statistics rank in the bottom 10 of starting Ts.

That Joe Staley is a good RT is a big myth. He's nothing more than an average T at best.

Statistics are meaningless when your quarterbacks are running into the sacks.

thats completely false alex never runs into sacks he acually does a good job avoiding them most of the time

Alex wasn't even the QB Staley's rookie (not for much of it anyways) or 2nd season (Alex didn't play one down).

AD = new Kwame Harris until he proves otherwise.
AD has struggled with pass protection...that's pretty common for rookie OT's, especially when they come out after their junior season. He made a number of mistakes in yesterday's game. I've heard it said it's usually the 3rd season for many OL, especially OT's that they "get it". So, I think there were some unrealistic expectations for Davis...he needs to keep improving, and the only way to do that is to play.
