We, as niner fans, have gone through 5 years of Alex Smith. I look at this guy and say, "why in the world is he still out QB." Well most people are pondering the same question. I think the answer to this is not that we have dumb coaching(witch we do but not the reason) but that Alex has shown glimpses of what Bill saw in him when the niners drafted him. In 2007 things looked to be going the niners way, but when Smith injured his shoulder in week 3 against the Seahawks, we would kiss our playoff hopes good bye. At that point he did not start in the NFL until 2 and half years later. Who knows what would have happened if he had not gotten hurt, but we cannot dwell on the past. When he took over for Shaun Hill in the middle of the 09' season he took over with authority and showed that he wanted to be our starting QB. For all the crap that he has gone thru he has persevered in my mind. Even when his home crowd is booing him out of the stadium he seems to still keep on fighting.
The man has been thru 6 OC's, missed 2 seasons, has been booed so bad, and yet the kid still manages to push thru the adversity. Any other QB would have called it quits and given up but no, he stayed the course and is still hanging in there. I put him on a short leash as well as everybody else but he has so mutch potential. He works harder than anybody else, his teammates respect him and help him on to his feet when he needs it most(ex: Vernon Davis changing Sing's mind about putting Carr in during the eagles game). I listened to KNBR today and Sing talked about how he has the respect of all his teammates and how he works harder than anybody else. I hear this and think to myself, "then why isn't it showing up on gameday." and I am quick to remind myself that him taking over at QB last year was almost like being a rookie again with him missing 2 1/2 years of experience that could have made him an elite QB by now.
All of this leads me to believe that Alex Smith will become the QB that the fans, Bill, and Sing know that he can be. The rest of this season will definitley define his career in SF. Great QB's always have a game where they have been playing like dirt the whole game and come back and win the game on the final drive, for Alex that is what his career has been like. We saw those glimpses of greatness in the opening game of 2007, the comeback vs. Seattle in 06, and the game tying drive against the Saints that should have been. It is up to him to decide weather he will force the faithful to boo him out of SF or to show us that he can be what we always knew he had in him........greatness.

This post literally brought a tear to my eye. This is why I support Alex too and I want him to prove everyone wrong more than I've ever wanted anything like that before. If anyone deserves a story like that, it is him. Well, a lot of people deserves stories like that, but as far as pros go, he is deserving. Great post. And I hope he shines.
