he's a smart dude, he should realize this. He mentioned it today in the press conference. Lets hope he's turned a corner. But I'm not holding my breath.
No, don't hold your breath, breathe through your nostrils, while you honor your bet/prediction.

Joe Montana was quiet and unassuming, but he had a competitive fire and would take you apart. The big knock on Steve Young for a long time was that he didn't have that Montana killer instict. Ultimately, he got it done with a lot of support. I think intellectually Young is the closer comparrison to Smith. What is so damn frustrating about Smith is that he's a pretty damn good football player when his back is to the wall and his juices are flowing. But he only seems to get into that mindset when we're down three freakin' touchdowns and it's a hopeless cause. He flat out said so much in his press conference today. He has the self awareness. I think we need some more designed runs for him, in addition to more no huddle. He'll get more of an adrenaline rush and will quit thinking if he's running for his life, reacting and getting his uniform dirty. We should see more designed bootleg runs and QB draws. He's fast enough to make it productive and it will have the incidental benefit of getting his blood going and quiet his nerves.
He lacks the ability to read, think, and act quickly. Philly figured out our "spread" on that last drive. NFL blitzers are faster than college and they will be up on the QB fast.
Spread = unblocked blitzers = quick throw = shorter passes = more pick sixes.
Philly figured out nothing. Our o-line got beat plain and simple. It doesn't matter what kind of offensive system you run, your starting RT cannot give up a pressure 1.5 seconds after the ball is hiked like that.

Alex Smith lacks confidence plain and simple. When Alex does make a nice play, series or game for that matter, rarely does that lead to sustained confidence. He always seems to reset and default back to square one.
Alex MUST play with nothing to lose. You see a receiver open, boom throw the ball. Let's stop over analyzing everything and play like there's no tomorrow.
Next weekend against the Raiders will be very telling!

Last night was disappointing for me because it showed just how little our 49ers fans who go to the games really know about football.

it's just frustration. I think you're referring to the "We want Carr" chants. I think that was more of a "We want change" chant and Carr represents change being the #2. I really doubt anyone thinks Carr is any better than Smith but the point is the SOMETHING needs to change and that's what they were expressing.

too bad we have anthony davis protecting for him. Davis got beat like a drum when Alex fumbled. It was a bad play by both AD and Smith.

He still threw an interception to end the game, did you guys miss that? Pretty obvious, like in the second half against Atlanta last year, he plays better with nothing to lose.
Down 24-10 lowers the pressure on the pathetic choke artist known as Alex Smith and he takes more risks, resulting in more plays down the field. I CANNOT believe anyone can still believe in him, I bet his Grandma even thinks he sucks.
