very true post and could not have said it better.

A win can help change attitudes in a locker room real quick and for everyones sake, I sure hope we beat down the Eagles this Sunday night.
what gets me is singletary is like "Watch the Screen! Watch the screen!" and what happens? they run the screen and the guys don't stop it.

Easily 1-3 if Nate Clemens does the smart thing and hits the turf instead of trying to score on that interception. If you slow down for whatever reason like he did someone can catch you from behind. Obviously the team either doesn't have a "What to do when you pick off a pass while leading inside of two minutes drill" or Clemens isn't doing what he was coached to do. That play wasn't bad luck. It was a case of either a poorly coached or selfish player. Selfish as in he would risk losing the game to get on Sports Center. Him scoring gives the ball back to Atlanta down by 8. He hits the dirt and the 49ers can force Atlanta to burn all their timeouts, a first down ices the game, or a field goal makes Atlanta need a td. A well coached players knows what to do in that situation.

Yes and isn't 1-3 what we all sort of expected at this point? Yeah, you can say KC but we all knew it ain't easy winning in KC.
I didn't want them to be 0-4 at this point and I thought they would be better, but I DID think it would be tough sledding to start the season.

2 games in LOUD stadiums with 2 rooks on the O-Line and a game vs the Super Bowl Champs in the first 3 games followed by yet ANOTHER road game vs a very good Atlanta team.

The upside is that the schedule does get easier and that those rookie O-Lineman have gotten through the fire.

I dunno if they will turn it around, but there are signs that things could get better.
I think the only games we lost handily were against the Seahawks and Chiefs. They just flat out punished us. However, I think we'd be 2-2 right now were it not for the following:

-Three (or was it four?) turnovers while inside the Saints 30-yard line. If just one of those possessions were a field goal, we win the game. It goes without saying that beating the reigning Super Bowl champs would've been HUGE for us.

-Nate's boneheaded fumble on the INT return last week, followed up by our defense essentially quitting the game early. Unlike most, I actually think returning the interception was the RIGHT choice given the amount of time left on the clock.

Not securing the ball was where he royally effed up.

(Sidenote: I think Roddy White is the physical embodiment of all that Nate fears. He's abusing dude with alarming regularity now)

And our defense was downright pitiful on that last drive. They played well all day but just flat came apart at the end. If we can't beat that scrub Kolb and the Eagles next week this season is in my mind, over.

Hopefully we'll rebound and take advantage of our Charmin soft schedule until the bye.

Week 1 was a mental collapse, no doubt about it.
Week 2 was filled with mental letdowns.
Week 3 we didn't even show up.
Week 4 featured the biggest mental letdown yet. Clements was trying to do too much and the team lost as a result.
simply put, with more losses it becomes more mental
A lot of it is mental. And that goes back to coaching and preparation. We are the least prepared team in the league and get outdone on coaching and X's and O's in every game.
Its the seven Pee's of sucsses my friends, and I put it all on the Head Coach!

Excellent post Marvin. I don't know if we can turn this around but there is still hope. If we can stop these stupid mental mistakes, we can be a 9-7 team and win the west.

Exactly. I think the team is mentally "fighting something they can't see." I mean it's has only been 4 games - 3 games on the road & we've been bad on away games for quite sometime now. But the I think the pressure of expectations has gotten to these players & their are indeed forcing things.

1 win could very well change the coarse of our season, but that in itself could be a big mental hurdle. That 1 win will be harder than it should be because alot of pressure will be lifted. Again they'll fight themselves & try to force things. They need to avoid this & just play.
3-1? lmao
