Is Chilo Rachal a bust?

Anthony Davis doesnt know what the hell is going on when Chilo lines up next to him... if he's not a bust yet, he's definitely on the bust fringe

Don't be surprised if the Niners use ANOTHER 1st round pick to selct an OG next year.

Maybe Niners make a move for Davis DeCastro from Stanford?

More likely its Rachal that doesnt know what the hell is going on and AD gets caught up in trying to figure out what Rachal will do so he tries to compensate but by then its too late.

I don't recall Baas being that bad. I just remembering him regularly getting injured.

This and the fact he was playing out of position. He's proven to be a better C than G.

I would be very surprised if they select an interior lineman 1st round

Chilo isn't ready to play right now but he has enough potential to become a better than average starter in the future. Baas and Soap are great examples of this. Chilo needs to keep working on this technique and the mental side of the game while he watches from the bench. If somebody drafted comes along and plays better than him in OTA's and practice then I have no issue with the niners cutting him.

I don't know if anybody remembers how bad David B. was the first few years on the team. He has developed into a solid starting o lineman. For whatever reason o lineman take time to develop.

Your argument would be great if it was to defend A. Davis who is 3.5 years younger than Chilo. Bass probably still sucks as a guard, the only thing that saved his career was Heitmann getting injured and moving to C. Bass playing center well was a surprise but he is still a bust as an early round guard (just like Chilo). To a certain extent Soap was misused as well and that has been remedied, Soap was never as bad as Chilo is though. Chilo is 26 and has had enough time to develop, if anything he has gotten worse and may be baggin groceries this time next year.
I read the title and it says "Is bust a bust?"

I wouldn't be surprised at all....Especially if its DeCastro.

Why?

Because the Niners don't need 5 starters and a few good backups. They need SEVEN good ones and a few backups.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they went after some TEs.

We have a clear need at RG, but I wouldn't exactly call it a first round need. WR and CB are bigger needs in my opinion. The line with Snyder as a starter has played well. Add in a big play receiver (similar to what Torrey Smith has brough to Baltimore's offense) and we would have an offense that would actually be feared. Add in a rookie RG and we become better at what we are already doing. Pretty good, but not exactly an offense that would strike fear in the opposing defenses.

In response to the Soap/Baas comparisons, they took awhile to come around, but both players showed more in 4 years than what Chilo has, particularly Baas who just couldn't stay healthy. We need to draft a guy in Round 3 or lower to bring into our rotation, and can play multiple positions (similar to Snyder).

It depends on what is available through FAcy but I would really like to see them pick a play maker at CB and WR early. If the best value is a RG I wouldn't complain, but with Kilgore and Person in the wings they may feel they are better at OLine than other spots. WR is turning into a very serious problem and several are FAs at the end of the season.
You cant be wasting first round picks on Guards every few years. The late round picks need to develop.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt up until now, but Chilo is a bust. There is always a chance he could salvage his career elsewhere ala Lloyd, but I no longer am willing to wait for that to be here. Wether its through the draft or free agency we need to add a starting calibur gaurd next year. Snyder has done a great job, but is really more suited to the role of a fantastic back up for the interior postions. He is a great utility guy, but has limited upside. We have a few late round pics that might be something..Kilgore for example, but we cant sit around and hope they develop quickly. Either get a guy in round 2 or 3, or get him in free agency, before draft day so you know that spot is secure.

Yeah because thats a glaring weakness
Would it be worst to Suit up Kilgore and if Chile sucks against the rams, to let the kid play? At this point let else on the unit play ahead of Chilo.

Or it could mean the difference between Alex getting sacked 9 times instead of 13 times? I'm sure the coaches can see what everyone else see's in Rachal, but that they keep playing him sort of speaks for the readiness for the other players to play that position.
