I agree we keep finding reasons for hope around here, but the sad part is whoever wins tomorrow night is still a contender for this sorry division. If we win, we're one game back with a game against Seattle still on the schedule.
No matter who wins this division, they will be undeserving of a playoff spot. For the first time, I'm actually convinced there will be a sub-.500 team in the playoffs. Hopefully getting in with a 7-9 record wouldn't somehow keep Singletary around. That would be the worst possible scenario.
I'm giving up hope on landing Andrew Luck. We're a bad team, but we still have 4 other bad teams on the schedule and we'll pull out at least a couple meaningless wins. Meanwhile, Carolina won't even catch up to our current 3 wins, so if Luck does declare, we don't have a shot due to our front office not having the balls to make the proper trades to acquire him. If he doesn't declare, I can't imagine tanking again next year to land him in 2012.

I agree. His philosophies are the main reason we're losing games. He restricts what the offense AND defense get to do. Mike Johnson and Manusky have to call the game the way Singletary "plans" it. Unfortunately, he never actually has a plan that WORKS. You take away his 1985 "vision" and put anyone with any game-planning abilities (or at least with more game-planning abilities than Singletary, which means pretty much any assistant on the team) and we'd have a couple more wins under our belt, with a good chance of adding more as we finish the season. People have been whining about it not mattering all season, but it does.

Why are you so worried about going to the playoffs? So this team can be embarassed on an even bigger stage and Singletary can keep his job another year?
______
Getting embarrassed in the playoffs is far better than getting last place in this historically bad division.
So to answer your questions...
Yes and maybe.
YES
I hope you get your wish, but don't go b***h*g next year with Sing as you coach.
I think Sing will be gone even if the team wins a playoff game... Marty Schottenhiemer was fired after a 14-2 season. It is clear that anything this team does at this point is in spite of the coaches, not because of them.
Marty was fired because he couldn't get that team over the hump in the playoffs. It's not the same.

Who hired that staff?
Oh yeah, it was Singletary.
No matter who you try to place the blame on, chances are Singletary is directly responsible for them being there. Blame Anthony Davis and Chilo Rachal for the line sucking, but who's the one that puts them both out there every week? That's right, Singletary. Blame Alex Smith for making mistakes and helping us lose some close, winnable games early in the season, but who's the one that bet the house on him and made sure there would be no QB competition? That's right, it was Singletary. Blame Raye for calling crappy games, but what did Raye do? That's right, he did exactly what Singletary told him to do.
As a head coach, you regulate everything these guys do. You prepare them to win. This team is constantly unprepared. That falls directly on Singletary. Had he not been so intent on running the type of offense he felt would be successful, we might have had Linehan last year and we would have had a competent offensive coordinator the whole time. Instead, Singletary drove him off because Linehan knew his vision wasn't going to work and he (Linehan) would wind up being the scapegoat.

NFC West =
LOL. Seriously. All NFC West should be banned from playoffs. They don't belong.
People said the Jets shouldn't have gotten in and look what they did. They beat the Colts who say Peyton Manning and won a tie breaker and advanced to the NFC Championship game winning 2 on the road.
That being said if we win tomorrow that's great but.... if we want to win this division things have to change drastically. We can't play afraid... go deep, blitz like mad... stop being so conservative Singletary, you have nothing to lose. We have to stop beating ourselves. Bench players if need be. Most of us would love to talk to these coaches and ask them what the hell they are thinking. This is pretty much the same team that went 8-8 last year that won.

The Rams are a pretty tough team to beat at home.

That may be true but Kansas City is actually good unlike the rest of the opponents this division plays.

They beat San Diego at home and I think San Diego is a better team than KC

If by some divine intervention the Niners make the playoffs, York better pay Eddy D to have some of his "friends" kidnapp Singletary before the first game of the playoffs. They can bring him back safte and sound, but only after the season is over.
