Where do you draw the line between hopeful optimism and flatout psychotic self delusion?

I draw the line when we are not playing in the NFC West. There is no such thing as psychotic self delusion in this division. Playoffs are attainable, even for this team.

I was talking about the slightly lower than a snowball's chance in hell that the Niners have of even keeping it competitive against the Saints.

Oh, well in that case...

I draw the line right now. The way we played on sunday + Superbowl champs = Bad news.

You'd have to see how we play against the Chiefs. They're a team we're suppose to beat so that should help us out a little.

Great point... Once this team shows they can beat the teams they expect to we can start to evaluate where they really are in the league. Right now it's middle of the road along with a bunch of other teams tryin' to find an identity.
The Seattle game was a fluke. Anyone who watched it knows the 49ers should have been up 21-0 while Seattle still only had 9 yards of total offense. Further, they know the refs helped turn around the game when they gave Seattle a first down on a penalty that should have gone against them and which prevented a pick six by Clements.
definitely the seattle game

absolutely correct.

However, letting it get out of hand like that was inexcusable. This team needs to learn how to maintain focus in the face of adversity. Halftime adjustments should have been made, and they weren't.

Playing well for one quarter isn't going to cut it.

I'd vote for both.

its a 16 game season. We will learn that we are inconstant but we always play better at home.

If we beat the Saints, which game will you consider a fluke? The L at Seattle or the W agasint New Orleans?

IF we lose then the Seattle game would be a fluke

This
Context -

We won't know if one or the other was a fluke unless we put it in the correct context. We need to see at least several more games before we begin to have that.
Who f**king cares? We would have beaten the Super Bowl Champs.
No game is a fluke. If you don't come to play, you can lose. If you bring it, you can win. Some are just better at always bringing it.

Didn't quite see it that way before you pointed it out. Thanks

You know, losers become very good at making excuses. IF IF IF.

Bottom line: The Niners have sucked for how many years? What is more rational, to think that a perenially crappy team sucks until proven otherwise, or that they are really good and just got unlucky? I don't care if the Niners beat NO. Sure, it will be great but they have to make the playoffs this year or they suck yet again. This is not an advanced logic class.
