Truth be told, most 49er fans expected to be 1-1 after two weeks of play. Fortunately for us, that start to the season is still within the realm of possibility. And should we beat the defending Superbowl champs this coming Monday Night, I think we'll actually be happier with our 1-1 start than had we beat the Seahawks and lost to the Saints.
We would be happier, but even if we play 50% better than this past Sunday, we will get the absolute s**t kicked out of us. We have to do a total 180 and win every facet of the game -- INCLUDING coaching -- and I just don't see that happening. I'm not writing us off, but I won't go into the game with high expectations.
We dominated the game early yesterday. We should have been up 21-0 by the end of the first quarter. And in addition to that, Clements probably would have had a pick six had the Seattle receiver not grabbed him from behind once Clements beat him to the ball. On that play, the ref called PI against Clements however and allowed what would have been a turnover or a fourth and long situation, to turn into a scoring drive for Seattle. Had Clements made the pick, the game would have been 28-0 49ers and we wouldn't be talking about any of this today.
With that said, I'm tired of writing about could have, would have, should have with the 49ers. Jimmy Raye and Crabtree killed us yesterday, and Smith let us down later in the game. But it was those two clowns that really set the negative tone.
