I guess the Niners are still worried about teams lining up with 8 WR's. 11 DB's. And we all thought one or two of those guys would get poop-canned after final cuts were made and other players available.

Tramaine Brock....now that's a great 53rd man on the team. Who needs Michael Robinson?

What's done is done. Nothing you or anyone else can do, man. No need to get worked up about it.

You are right. What is done is done. However, it is not a good roster decision, hence my dripping sarcasm.

Maddog,
Appealing to your logical side, if Robinson were still on the team and Brock was not, who would you declare inactive on game day so Robinson could be active?
These would be my choices:
1. Troy Smith
2. Kyle Williams
3. Alex Boone
4. Eric Heitmann
5. Diyral Briggs
5. Eric Heitmann
6. Curtis Taylor
7. Will James
8. ?

Here would be the list
Due to injuries in Game One:
1. Heitmann
2. James
3. Brooks
4. Williams
Plus, these healthy scratches
5. Curtis Taylor
6. Alex Boone
7. Diyral Briggs
8. Troy Smith

If Robinson was on the roster, then Snyder or Wragge would be the final inactive, as teams generally take only 7 OL on the 45 man roster on Sundays.

You can see that Robinson was competing against Taylor and Briggs for one of the last active spot on gamedays (as far as ST roles). Both those guys could be primary backups as soon as next season and need whatever gameday experience they can get, which makes it alot easier to understand why Robinson got cut.

The question the team has to ask is:
Is it more important to have a third stringer in 2010 who could possibly be a second stringer in 2011? Or is it more important to have a player who is going to make an immediate impact on special teams now, as one of the better special teamers in the NFL.

In my estimation, I'll take the difference maker now, and take a risk that the third teamers, who have little chance of starting, clear waivers for the Practice Squad.

Who are you talking about, Brock? Because imo once Robinson couldn't beat out Taylor/Briggs for the last spot on the gameday 45, the team is better served keeping around developmental prospects on the end of the roster, rather than a veteran with no upside. And from his perspective, if he's not going to play then I'm sure he would rather go elsewhere.

Developmental guys, unless they are high draftees, are typically not stashed on rosters. They are practice squad players. The reason why? There are a lot of developmental guys in the NFL, so they can found in many places. That is why the majority of cut players, including late round rookies, are not snatched by other squads.

So, take the player with immediate impact, stash the guys with "potential" on the PS, and see if they develop.
Nice, thanks

I guess what you're saying is that Robinson has no impact. And from his preseason, I'd have to agree. I wonder how you'll react when the Niners eventually part ways with Heitmann. I'm sorry Maddog, but it will happen.
