I have long maintained that the radio needs to go dead more often.
Alex is actually a better game manager than old Uncle Fester. When he's forced to make his own decisions, he makes better ones than the coaching staff.

I agree. I'm rooting for Smith to succeed, but in no way shape or form does he resemble Joe Montana. Except maybe both of their uniform numbers began with a 1.

What makes you think it was exaggeration? Your personal feelings about Smith, or did you see something that no one else did? He did look cool, calm and collected during that drive. He wasn't breaking the pocket and playing wild, he made good reads and threw the ball accurately. This was against the first team D, I guess since he didn't go all madden and throw a 60 yard bomb behind Ginn he isn't any good.
Because the words Alex Smith and Joe Montana do not belong together. Of course, to you the 3/9 performance against Indy must have been Montana-esque as well.

The comparison to Joe is unnecessary. But I think in Alex Smith's defense, he's a better QB than he's given credit for. When he's allowed to play to his strengths, he's a very good QB, in fact. The problem is the coaching staff, and has been for a long time.
I am rooting for him to succeed, of course. We all should be. And I say that as a guy who thought drafting him over Rodgers was a huge mistake.

Considering they both are associated with SF

We should compare Alex to his last good predecessor: Jeff Garcia.
Two straight 30+ TD seasons and Pro Bowls is still hard to live up to.
Good hypothetical question is, how would Smith have fared if he had Rice and TO to throw to?

Wow, talk about over-reaction. It was a comparison of one ASPECT of their games, not their complete performances. Was it a little over the top, definitely. But everyone is taking what the writer said out of context and implying that Smith played like Montana, which he didn't. He was merely implying Smith showed a calmness under fire similar to Montana. That's it, he didn't compare the Alex's game to Montana, anyone can tell you they are no where near the same QB.
But this is all lost on NT anyways, haters gonna hate.

So NO ONE QB is this league let alone our team can be compared to Joe Cool?
SNAP OUT OF IT!!!
Alex did exhibit a "coolness" in that first drive that had been missing for like, forever it seems. Still, he did display it for all to see.
Since we as Niner's fans associate "coolness" and "calm" with Joe (not Steve), it seems logical that we do the same when ANY one of our QBs, past or future, exhibits the same traits.
WTH is wrong with that?
Seriously guys, relax or you will start to have diamonds fall out.

I feel like you're presuming a lot with your comments.
I'm not willing to compare Smith engineering a drive in the preseason to the greatest QB ever.

Second that. Man, as soon as I read that I started laughing. As Allen Iverson stated, " Were talking about practice man, practice! Not a game, but practice!" Haha.
But he absolutely NEEDED to play well against the Vikes, and he did. Now he needs to do it against the Raiders.

"NOTABLES: David Carr struggled in a red zone drill, throwing three interceptions, including one tipped pass that rookie cornerback Phillip Adams took to the house.

I wonder how Nate does in this drill.
