Is Baas permanent answer at center?

Baas can stay at center, he's been the best player on the line so far the season.

Every other player, including Staley, have been below average. The line has played so bad this season that a major shake up is called for IMO.

Of course I know these changes will never happen, but IMO, this is easily the best possible starting combo for the Niners. No rookies, no Rachal, and THE TEAM IS ACTUALLY USING THEIR BEST LT!

Yes. Baas should remain at center imo.

I would leave Iupati at LG and have Heitmann or Snyder at RG.

If Smith would stop running into sacks, everybody would talk about how great the O-line is playing.

Hopefully Synder moves over to RG.

Heitman's neck injury will make it tough for him to get back on the field this season. This is life in the NFL, the body breaks down and on to the next player.

Baas is injured very frequently. He is not the permanent answer because (1) he's injury prone, (2) he's in the last year of his contract, and (3) he's still not all that good -- reviews of the last game tape shows the OT's are covering for the interior lineman because they are getting no push, but are getting pushed back instead, and are letting the pass rush through.

While I agree with you that Baas has had some injuries in the past, he has been pretty healthy this year. That being said I disagree with your premise that he is (not all that good). While I dont have the coaches tape that you broke down I have watched the games and see no major problems with his play and do not see him being pushed back as you say. There are many reasons and different blocking assignments etc that go on during the game that dictate line play. While I dont think I see all pro written on his back at this time, from what I have viewed in the games so far he has played pretty good. Maybe you should continue to break down film in your quest to be the 49ers new OL coach. Any improvement would be welcome.


On a side note the 49ers will do there best to resign him to a new contract

Baas played C at Michigan and i remember watching his draft day when we drafted him....i've been waiting patiently to see him to play for a very long time...thus far i believe he has been pretty SOLID!

Into the bird quarter of Sundays game and three times he pushed the DT back three yards and he also had great blocks when pulling.

He ran into a whopping ONE Sack. That one was by Seymour who Staley had his hands full with at the same time. His feet have gotten him out of 10 of them.

At this time our most important re-signings have to be Baas and Manny.

Morgan has not stepped up enough, Smith is still a HUGE question mark regardless of what Zoners think one way or the other as well.

Personally I don't think we should be taking a chance here with the future of this Line. We gotta keep Baas at Center and replace 2 Linemen. Send Staley to the bench, put Sims in at LT and Heitmann at RG. Having the Vet next to Baas and next to Davis SHOULD help both handle their spots. I've noticed that when Chilo fails so does Davis. But when Snyder is at Guard, Davis is fine. If nothing else you don't f@ck with the Chemistry of the Line needlessly. We've seen Heitmann get blown back into the Backfield lots of times. But I don't believe that I've seen Baas get blown up. To me this is looking more and more like they gave Heitmann too much credit. It's great when you have a cerebral Center calling the protection, but if he cannot carry out his own assignment consistently then there is a problem.

Also the reason we don't get a lot of Push if any on Running Plays should be pretty f@ckin obvious. We always Run to the middle. The DC doesn't have to do any work here he sends in a base Defense and tells the signal caller to expect a Draw. "Oh look there's Frank right on schedule."

Baas does TOO get blown up, look at the first 3 games especially.
