There's nothing worse than an ignorant fan base...

You WERE GIVING excuses as to WHY and HOW Smith got the numbers he GOT. Saying he only got those numbers from in the spread CAN be considered an excuse as to, again, how he got those numbers. Which isn't at all true, by the way.

You cant make excuses for a good performance, only a bad one. For example, a common excuse for why Smith has failed up to this point is because he was mishandled by Nolan.

What I was doing would be more appropriately classified as belittling he performance... Im not trying to be mean here, just letting you know you are completely wrong.

Players make excuses for doing good things all the time by saying "Thank the lord and Jesus for allowing me to make a play.." etc. That's an excuse , for once I wanna hear a player just say "Well I would of caught that ball but ya know... Satan's a b*tch and he forced me to drop it".

Satan is probably making you guys quote eachother 50x's and annoy the hell out of anyone who actually wants to discuss training camp. Hopefully the lord steps in and allows you guys take your Smith arguments to any other of the 10,000 Smith threads where all these topics have been debated countless times over and let us get back to training camp.

Nice to hear of Boone and Brooks going at it in practice. Two of the most overhyped players in Webzone history locking horns.

The reality: Both are backups. In Boone's case, he's just hoping to get a roster spot.

Cheers.

Brooks will start. I know you have talked him down since we took him but I think you were wrong.

I seriously doubt he starts over Manny, but he has been better than i expected. Let's just hope he improves on last season.

Could he start over Haralson?

I doubt it. Haralson is the only OLB on the roster that has been the every down player. Brooks subs in for Manny on 3rd down pass rush situations, while Manny takes 1st and 2md downs. I guess it comes down to how well Brooks can hold up against the run and in coverage on 1st and 2nd downs. So far all we can say is that they trust him on 3rd downs to rush the passer. We have to see him further progress in those categories during the season. So this is Brooks chance to earn that starting spot for the long term if he excels and Manny isn't retained after the season.

7. DE Kentwan Balmer vs. Brian de la Puente. The two tangle for a moment but BdlP puts Balmer on his backside. Verdict: de la Puente

So a 1st rounder gets knocked on his a$$ by a journeyman free-agent who almost has no shot to make the team. Wow. More evidence that Blamer = bust.

Yeah, not the greatest news for trying to instill some hope for Balmer. On the flip side, anyone know Mitchell's weight at the moment? He seems to be having a great camp so far, if Balmer doesn't show anything in preseason games, I'd like to see what Mitchell can do at end, and NT of course but for whatever reason it doesn't sound like the coaching staff thinks he can grasp the nuances of NT (ie: why RJF is gettin all the reps).

jeff your twitter is faster than mine. you always post these picks like 2-3 minutes before i even get the pic

Mitchell looked pretty strong at NT last preseason. Hope he shows it again on the 15th.

The glass-is-half-full way to look at it is we have great depth along the O-line
looks like good weather to train in! Not too hot!
It's a good "change of pace" move by the coaching staff.

isnt monteray bay hella windy i think one of the reasons why their doing this is to play in the wind as well (mainly for the PR) just a guess could be way off lol
mattbarrows

David Baas snapping to David Carr as Niners warm up. But Baas will sit out another day after Monday concussion.
Sando is in the house today as well.

On the scene with 49ers at cool, damp CSU-Monterey Bay. Field cut longer and looks a little chunkier than NFL field, in my view.
