396 lbs.???? Dare I ask what kind of training he's done in the off-season to get to this weight? Must have been the Krispy-Kreme/Domino's Pizza/Ruth Chris Steakhouse Diet.

Nice to hear of Boone and Brooks going at it in practice. Two of the most overhyped players in Webzone history locking horns.
The reality: Both are backups. In Boone's case, he's just hoping to get a roster spot.
Cheers.

Brooks will start. I know you have talked him down since we took him but I think you were wrong.

I seriously doubt he starts over Manny, but he has been better than i expected. Let's just hope he improves on last season.

Could he start over Haralson?

I think it would be dope if they trained on the beach! More than likely its, just a practice then a field trip/ bonding trip to the aquarium! Either way, a change of scenery is good for them!!!

OT Alex Boone vs. OLB Ahmad Brooks. This was the marquee event. On the first snap, Boone rode Brooks out of the play. "I can tell you that was one of your better ones," a happy Mike Solari told Boone after. On snap two, however, Brooks started outside but then tore inside with an impressive move that would have crushed the quarterback.Somebody yelled for a tiebreaker, so the two lined up for a rare third battle. That one, sadly, turned out to be a stalemate. Verdict: Draw.

I hope he breaks out this year. He certainly has RB moves to use as our pass rushing demon. I guess he's using those on that inside move, huh? Looking forward to our OLBs getting more QB meat, bout time too.
I could honestly see Boone earning the starting RT job until Davis is ready to take the reigns. I personally feel like he provides a bit more security.
How? He has never played in an NFL game let alone started in one yet. I think Boone will be happy to make the team and I do think he has a decent shot to make it but even if he does, I doubt he even dresses this year.
True - more wishful thinking on my part considering the alternative (Snyder) is not very enticing either.

Maddog,
I think you get Webzone hope confused with hype.

Gotta agree with English here - Even when we had Brooks pegged as a middle linebacker after he first arrived, I always felt that he would make a better OLB (and exchanged a few emails with Kevin Lynch attesting to this) and he more than proved me right last year.

from cbs sportslines Rapid Reports
As uninspiring as QB Alex Smith's play has been this practice, backup QB David Carr has been even worse. He's already been picked off twice and looks uncomfortable throwing anything besides checkdowns. QB Nate Davis might challenge him before long.
LOL, I thought Smith was firing deep TD passes this morning...and now his play was "uninspiring?"
This is why I never take any of these reports too seriously. These are the same reports that lauded JTO.
Along with the coaches... He did beat Smith out didnt he?
Smith was still hurt now wasn't he!!!
Come on! Don't use a broken bone in his throwing shoulder as an excuse!!!!!
JTO won the job because he knew Martz's gay offense better, get your facts straight. How's JTO doin now?
Certainly not getting any starting gigs handed to him without earning it like someone else I know.
lol Alex Smith is in no way shape or form being "handed" a starting gig. He has most certainly earned it, by playing in 9 1/2 games, putting up numbers like he had played an entire 16 game season, having a BETTER QB rating than Peyton Manning. And now with continuity this season with the same OC, good numbers from last season for only playing in 9 1/2 games, there's no reason Alex Smith doesn't deserve the starting job. Not to mention the fact that he's molded into a fine leader supposedly.
And the fact he lost the starting job to JTO before he re-aggravated his shoulder, CLEARLY means that his throwing arm/shoulder, was never 100% back to the way it was to START with.
Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 99 last year compared to Smith's 80, so Im not sure about your math on that one... but thats besides the point. My biggest issue is that all of those stats were achieved out of the spread formation and a good chunk of them were against soft, prevent defenses.
Until Smith shows that he can be a productive out of a pro-style offense (i.e. operating from under center), our offense will never achieve enough balance to be successful over a 16 game season.
I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong, but Im not getting my hopes up.
Who the f**k cares "how" he produced the numbers he did. The fact is he played better than he ever has before in his career. You really are making "Alexcuses".
Wouldnt an "Alexcuse" come from a supporter of the kid trying to validate his accomplishments, not a critic trying to do the opposite? I think you might be mistaken in your idea of what an excuse is.
You're making excuses as to why Smith was successful last year. By basically saying, oh, he only produced all of his good stats while in the spread/shotgun formation. Like get real dude.
Get the f**k out of here already with the on-going Alex Smith bulls**t! There is a dedicated thread for you long-lash-loving, Alexcuse-making, fans so go there and stop ruining this thread!
Excuse me? You're only contributing to "ruin" this thread by replying to my postings. So why don't YOU gtfo kid.
Since when is 27 a "Kid"??? Also, what adult says "like get real dude"??
Stop b***hing and take it to the appropriate thread! As if there weren't enough:
Mr. Long lashes
I've quietly posted on this forum for several months, but this makes bile rise up into my throat. I was born into the Niner family, my dad having played 10 years as a linebacker for the 9ers (Frank Nunley). Your blind hate disgusts me. If you can't contribute to a thread without childish retorts, please stop replying. I only bring this up because I can't stand it much longer before I go to another board.
??? I'm the childish one for telling these guys to stop their bickering and cat fight over Alex Smith??? This was a pretty good thread with great information and it was being polluted. I saw it go on for a while and resisted saying anything, but had to interject since the Mods weren't telling these a*****es anything. Go back and read the posts and look at what I said.
Update... Look down a couple of posts. They're at it again.

Wrong again... Here is the definition of an excuse:
Quote:
To explain (a fault or an offense) in the hope of being forgiven or understood
You cant make excuses for a good performance, only a bad one. For example, a common excuse for why Smith has failed up to this point is because he was mishandled by Nolan.
What I was doing would be more appropriately classified as belittling he performance... Im not trying to be mean here, just letting you know you are completely wrong.
No, you're wrong. He actually failed up to the point to when he took over for Shaun Hill in the Texans game after halftime.
