Had to... That dude was not making any sense. Felt it was my duty to not only share my uncanny eye for talent, but also teach a few english lessons along the way for some of the less educated webzoners out there.

lol Alex Smith is in no way shape or form being "handed" a starting gig. He has most certainly earned it, by playing in 9 1/2 games, putting up numbers like he had played an entire 16 game season, having a BETTER QB rating than Peyton Manning. And now with continuity this season with the same OC, good numbers from last season for only playing in 9 1/2 games, there's no reason Alex Smith doesn't deserve the starting job. Not to mention the fact that he's molded into a fine leader supposedly.

And the fact he lost the starting job to JTO before he re-aggravated his shoulder, CLEARLY means that his throwing arm/shoulder, was never 100% back to the way it was to START with.

Peyton Manning had a QB rating of 99 last year compared to Smith's 80, so Im not sure about your math on that one... but thats besides the point. My biggest issue is that all of those stats were achieved out of the spread formation and a good chunk of them were against soft, prevent defenses.

Until Smith shows that he can be a productive out of a pro-style offense (i.e. operating from under center), our offense will never achieve enough balance to be successful over a 16 game season.

I sincerely hope that he proves me wrong, but Im not getting my hopes up.

Now, if you want to say that your analysis of him is accurate it might be better put that you are, "disembelleshing" or "disadorning" him.

I meant your statement regarding Smith not performing well "under center."

And you're smart enough to know that "competition" was a farce. Martz had an obsession with O'Sullivan and O'Sullivan knew the offense and was obviously going to be "better."

Having a 6th grader compete against 1st graders doesn't make the 6th grader "smarter."

I dont think it was a complete farce, but definitely gave the upper hand to JTO - now let us never speak of him again.

Yes, however, your usage of "belittle" suggested a definition of lowering stature of Alex Smith, not his stature with the fanbase. As you said, "belittling his performance" not "belittling the perception of his performance". As his performance is in the nominitve case and there are no other subjects within the sentence the verb to belittle becomes attached to it. Therefore, your belittlement cannot be attached to the "alexcuses" but to Alex himself.

Remember, words do not have definitions they have uses; only determined by the context within which they are used - throwing a definition out there that fits what you were trying to say does not mean that's what you said. (I sure hope you know I'm just having fun with this btw).

In short, "disadorn" or "disembellesh" would still be the better word choice.
