Are we expecting too much from the rookies? Hell yes lol! Someone call the waah-mbulance
These kids put this sh*t on themselves when they demand the ridiculous salaries that they almost always land.
Lucky for these kids (whether they see it as luck or not), Singletary isn't just gonna give em someone else's spot just because they're paid. They'll have to put their work in and there's nowhere to hide once you've got top team reps in practice. We'll find out what we got with these two pretty early on I'd say. I got no problem seeing these guys fight; it'll only make the crew better. What's the adage...competition breeds greatness or something? Guess that's how I'm looking at this thing with our line; just massing talent and letting em scrap.
I don't think we've had a problem with acquiring talent or anything like that. I think this repeated transitional phase (or whatever you wanna call It) hasn't allowed anyone to put their best foot forward long enough to establish themselves on this team. Hopefully those days are over. Knock knock!
The area I think we needed to address which you eluded to in your original post is the position coaches. I'm really excited to see what Solari and Brown can do with this crew. Solari was behind one of the best lines I've ever seen in KC and the dude even has a little experience at OC. Brown, obviously doesn't have the coaching cred that Solari has but we all seen the guy play here and for several other teams. I feel comfortable saying there's not a lot of human beings that know more about kickin' 300 lb. ass than Ray Brown.
All in all I love where we're at right now and fully expect us to make the playoffs. But a lot of this will be on how quickly this line picks things up; which I think is the statement at the core of your post. I think our guys can do it and I think we can do it for a long time if we can keep em together.

Good post and welcome to the 'Zone. Yes I do agree with this season depends on how quickly this line picks things up, but I totally agree with the issue of continuity. Manning and Brady have had the same OC/Scheme for approximate 12 years apiece. We had some bad luck with McCarthy and Turner, and someone needs to tell Jed that CONTINUITY IS KEY!

I agree that we are expecting too much and we're getting our hopes up. Rookies rarely make an impact in their first year because it takes them at least one year to learn the system. But, at least they have a promising future and they definately have more potential than what we currently have.

A good QB can hide O-Line deficiencies.
Now I'm not going to call Alex a good QB (yet) but his improved play will pay dividends to the O-line and in particular, the new maulers in Iupati and Davis.
And there will be several instances where there will be major FACEPALM reactions, but that's expected from our newbies.
Patience!

Will they really be able to step in and improve the offense more so than Baas & Snyder?
I keep hearing everyone say how A. Smith will become the next Joe Cool based on him being in the same system for two years in a row. So why wouldn't the same thing be said for Snyder & Baas?
So the question is; are the two rookies that much more physically talented than the vets or did we just draft horribly along the O-line in the past?
Coaching may have been an issue but if so what would it say about Baas & Snyder if two rookies can beat them out right out of the gate?
Yes. They are that much more physically talented. O line is not the hardest position in the game to learn. Not even the second or third hardest......

Thx 4 the link. Looks like he does well when he attacks his man early but when he sits back I think it gets a little hairy. I wonder about inside moves at the next level if he lets guys get up on em with a little too much speed. As long as he's aggressive I think he's gonna be fine. Pretty much owned those dudes inside of their 1st 3 steps.
A couple of running plays to the other side he let his man beat em inside but it looked like maybe he's just too proud to cut block lol! Minor problem; just comes down to making a decision and maybe swallowing a little pride.
Still wanna see us take our time with em though because he is so young. Get stronger, get used to playing the right side and then let em battle it out. If we can just keep Rosenhaus from pissing in his ear we might just get this kid schooled.

They start as long as they aren't a mirror image of Balmer.

I know the old saying is better with the devil u know then the devil u dont know.
But in this case, knowing what Crap Baas and Snyder bring, i'd rather take the chance with Davis and Iupati.

Plus its better to get the growing pains out of the way early on as opposed to the playoff push.
True, but I am hearing there may not be anything special about Davis.
I knew billbird's retarded thread will convince some of the minions....
