Cortez was a great Kicker. Just got a bad name because the holder sucked. Look at the play when Allen goes after him, clearly a bad hold. Besides Nedney, Cortez is the the next best 9er kicker in the past 15 years.

I wouldnt say great. He wasnt as horrible as people are acting. When we first signed him he was really good though.
People forget how horrible our kicking game was when he left until we got Nedney. Chandler and Pochman were probably the 2 worst kickers of all time. Peterson was pretty bad too.

I actually liked JC, cause on kickoffs dude was FEARLESS, he would actually be one of the first guys in the scrum. Unlike MOST Kickers who hang back and only make an attempt on the Ball Carrier when absolutely necessary. JC was balls out in there to make sure that NOBODY got a return TD on his shift.
He may have sucked as a FG Kicker but straight up SOLID as a Kickoff Specialist.

It isn't mean if it states that he was pretty good at Kickoffs. Which it does.
I actually do think that it was a holder issue, but how many holders has he had? They can't ALL be incompetent can they? Though I think that Romo held for him too so take that FWiW.

Well since this is a Jose Cortez appreciation thread I say its the holders. Holding is becoming a lost science these days. Thats why punters do it.
