on their quarterback rankings list...we have the worst in the division (bradford and leinert are higher)...and as much as i love him, Tebow is also the highest ranked rookie..

Willis is also the only 49er in the top 100..

I don't understand how Revis is ranked higher than Willis either. No doubt he was the best corner in the league this LAST season. Willis has been the best MLB in the league since his rokie season. He's led the league in tackle 2 of his first 3 seasons and was second in tackles his 2nd season, he's the complete package and can do anything asked of a defensive player, to me he is definately a top 10 player. And how is that peckerhead Rivers at number 11?
Oh by the way they have Vernon at number 81, but i love what they had to say about our offense
81. Vernon Davis, TE, 49ers (2009 Rank: Unranked)
After years of being dismissed as a combine wonder and a draft bust, Davis emerged as one of the game’s top tight ends in 2009. Tying the NFL record for most TD catches by a tight end in a season with 13, Davis was selected to his first Pro Bowl. In 2010, Davis joins Alex Smith, Frank Gore, and Michael Crabtree on one of the league’s youngest — and most exciting — offensive units. Big things are expected.
Revis is hands down the best defender in football and deserves to be ahead of Willis. He's the most feared person in football, and is the only true shut down corner in the NFL. When you get Peyton Manning to completely avoid you that's saying something.
so if he's the most feared in the nfl... would you take revis or willis if both of them were free agents? and we had a need at both positions? keep in mind your defense is built around the linebacker... not built around the corner. nnamdi and champ bailey would be as good as revis if they had the kinda talent revis has on his team. and not only that you have rex ryan as your hc. it's easy to avoid a cornerback... it's called not throwing to that side... it's hard to avoid the linebacker! he covers sideline to sideline
Defenses aren't necessary built around linebackers. The Ravens were, but there's plenty of great 3-4 teams with average inside linebackers. Off the top of your head whose Pittsburgh's inside linebacker?
Asoumongah (or whatever his name is) and Champ would not be as good as Revis if they had the Jets talent around them. I completely disagree with that.
Not many teams can afford to have their go to guy being completely shut down. Yeah you're avoiding him that doesn't mean he's not having a huge impact though.
I'd probally take Willis over Revis long term though just because it's alot easier to be a dominant LB for 12 years than it is to be a shut down corner.
Corners take a little longer to develop than linebackers. There's a reason why defensive rookie of the year is always won by a middle linebacker. For the last year and half though Revis has been more dominant than any other corner by a long shot.

i just disagree with you saying revis is the most dominant defensive player in the league. ya he turned it on in the last year and a half but cmon man. willis has done it game in game out for a solid 3 years.
if football ended today and we had to make a choice based on the last 3 years who would be in the hof, revis wouldn't be over willis. am i wrong?

This survey isn't a 3 year study though. It's whose the best in the league right now.

don't get me wrong. revis is great. he just aint patrick willis. and believe me when you're hearing that from your friends that aren't niner fans. aka cowboy fans aka raider fans. so from a respect level willis is the it and will be for years to come... not just over one season. ima put my money where my mouth is and guarantee that the revis doesn't do what he did last year!

Revis is very good, but his shutdown skill wasn't the only reason why Manning didn't throw his way in the playoff game. When there were easier bones to pick, why bother challenging Revis? Manning had a field day picking apart the Jets pass defense, virtually rendering Revis ineffective. That fact should prove that a shutdown CB isn't that valuable.

Why do I bother? You know our defense got roasted on multiple occasions as well that doesn't mean an All star LB isn't valueable.
There's about 3 teams in the NFL that can do what Peyton did against New York. That's it.

If you read my post again, you'd see that I did not compare Willis with Revis. I wrote about why Manning didn't have to beat up on Revis. A shutdown corner can only cover his zone or guy, but many teams have been able to overcome the lack of a great cornerback with schemes or a great pass rush - like the 49ers being able to harass K. Warner last year.
About the 49ers: the last year's team was particularly vulnerable to WCO schemes. Those schemes can create a lot of problems for teams that have great cornerback - like Revis - or MLB - like Willis.

A shut down corner can eliminate a team's number one option and allow for additional blitzes and additional run support. It also can help against a team's secondary option. If you don't have to commit 2 guys to guarding "x" receiver it allows for more help with "y" receiver. The problem with Peyton and the Colts was that Peyton can go to his #4 WR just as effective as his #1 WR. Like your WCO scenario not many teams are capable of that.
This isn't about what's the more important position to me. Really you can build a great defense around multiple positions. The Steelers are built around Polamaulu. The Ravens are built around Ray Lewis, and New England built their defense around the defensive line.
