People are blinded by the way Mays looks in a tshirt and shorts. As well his track speed doesn't always translate on the field. He looks very stiff at times and loses much of his speed when he has to change direction. He wasn't a playmaker in college and really struggles on making plays on the ball in the air. All his weaknesses seemed to only be highlighted last season.

I have serious questions as to whether he can play safety in the NFL. With his size and frame, he may have to look at adding weight at some point and moving to LB.

I have to agree with everything you said, but hope you're wrong. And by the way, how can you expect anyone to respect your opinion with that name? What next? Jose Cortez?

I will agree with Rod. I think he would know a bit more about Mays than you

Yeah but he's not going to rip Mays or anything after he just got to know him and found out he's a pretty good kid. FWIW I didn't like the pick but I accepted that with that much talent at a 2nd round pick you kinda had to take a shot. I wish we could've got Nate Allen instead but the Eagles picked him a few spots before us. I really wanted Earl Thomas and everyone on here killed me for it. I don't think Mays is very good in coverage and I kind of wish we could get a different safety like a Rahim Moore in the draft.

He will make you eat those words.

I hope he does. He's got a LONG ways to go. Theres a reason so many people passed on someone so "physically" gifted.

LOL Rod made that statement at the beginning of the year. And even if he felt differently, he wouldn't have said anything. You don't blast or be critical of someone you're trying to help and coach. You can take his words with a grain of salt. Mays' play at USC and during last season(or lack there of it) speaks for itself.

I'm a big Rahim Moore fan. Saw him play a lot at UCLA and I think he'll be a good pro. The guy knows how to play football, and he doesn't have to be in the weight room or on a track to prove that to anyone.

The name is a joke. Everyone always picks generic screen names ie "Young4ever" or "MontanatheGreatest" or "WillisMVP". They're all predictable and forgettable. I went in a different direction. Don't think for a second though I was ever a fan of his lol. At the time I couldn't believe the niners passed on Jake Plummer and Pat Barnes.
lol i remember when i was young and we just drafted drunkenmiller i mailed him a rookie card and he autographed it and mailed it back to me....i was tickled pink lmao

I agree. As soon as he was picked I noted that we just drafted a cheap ripoff of Michael Lewis. In fact, I wouldn't even go that far. Lewis was a decent cover safety in the first part of his career...

This really smells like a Singletary pick although I admittedly have no idea how much say he had in the draft--but he probably had a lot considering that he was able to get our best QB, Shaun Hill, traded.

I know it's a joke. Do you think Lawrence Phillips name is taken though?
Honestly, since his coverage skills are questionable as a safety, why not convert the dude to OLB, use that speed and power to good use. If Urlacher could make the transition from S to MLB, why can't Mays?

Reggie Smith is better in coverage.

There's 2 pro bowl safties that have bad coverage skills. Troy (pitt) and Adrian (cardinals) they are put into the position to make plays. That's what Fangio will do for Mays. Reggie has better coverage skills because he's a corner that will not attack. He's a bit soft. he would be good as a woodson type player on 3rd down.

Mays is no where near their caliber. To say that Mays has bad coverage skills is being nice. He has NO coverage skills. Right now he is a developmental player who lost his job to Smith. That speaks volumes. As far as the Woodson comparison, if you are talking about Charles Woodson: PLEASE!!! If you are talking about Rod Woodson: You are delusional!!!

You're a paying customer...if you get my drift.
Mays was a fraud in college, and so far has been a fraud in the NFL. Bad angles, an inability to play well in coverage, and poor instincts override his physical attributes.

Good coaching cannot correct bad instincts. Either you have it, or not.

Should have learned from Senior Bowl week, when he struggled so badly that scouts thought he may have to switch to linebacker at the next level.
