What do we do about Frank's contract?

just sign to a 2-3 year deal. but split the carries with other RBs to extend his career a tad.

Trade it along with him after this season why we can still get something back. I see this as the last opportunity to get anything close to "real value" for him. He's at the peak now.

His numbers can be replaced. I understand his likability and locker room presence may not be easily replaced. But his production can be replaced.

NO.

MD I haven't seen you touch on the Lawson situation, any thoughts on the matter?

He's playing for a contract next year. I wouldn't give him a dime more than what he is making now. If he prove to be an effective 3-4 backer, then the team can work on his contract next season. Most of the key players will be locked in by the end of this year (I expect Davis to pick up a mid-year contract extension), so the team can spend some money on him in the offseason, if needed.

I think his best days in the NFL will be with a 4-3 team, as a Sam backer. And, I expect that is where he will fit in 2011, on another team.

I'd give Frank a 2-year extension, but knowing the position Frank will be in, he'll either opt out and demand a trade to a Superbowl-ensured team, or demand a 4-5 year contract with a heavy base salary/guaranteed money.

Frank has been on the decline since the end of 2008, and due to the team's horrible mis-management/lack-of offensive talent/parity (not putting him in a 2 RB-set early into his career), Frank probably has about one or two 'productive' years left in him before he follows that 'veteran depth' player role almost every RB follows in.

Nothing. Wait and see what our big rookie can do if he loses weight and gets down to 215 or 220. Hopefully, our line is strong enough to make an average back look like a probowler, which will give us time to find another game breaker.

NEVER franchise a RB because they come easy.

so if gore runs for 1400+ yds in 2011 you let him walk?

If it goes that far (and Frank has that much luck), we sign him to a 1st round tender and see what happens from that point on.

ya someone should tell him u dont sign UFA's to 1st round tenders
Frank is in the prime of his career, our line has been horrible and he still had pretty good years. I think we try our best to keep him and see how he works out with real linemen blocking for him. Our line has been soft for years now, we need some Kevin Gogan nastiness to impose our will on the opposing teams defense. If Gore had that line blocking for him, he would be unstoppable. I mean Hearst was one of my all time favorite Niner backs, but Gore is better with a much crappier line.
We should keep Gore a niner and watch him break the franchise rushing record. Peopole dont know greatness when they see it.

This

Don't Emmit, Alexander, Jamal or LT him.

If he is going to go because of injury, let him go in the field, like Paul Hofer

Hopefully, having Coffee and Dixon will extend his career.

I am anticipating his 5th Straight 1,000 yard season

Agreed

If he just goes bonkers, We extend him through 2012.

this. unfortunately, we have to be realistic and realize that Frank's years are numbered, and we need to start looking for his replacement. But as long as he's still effective we shouldn't do anything rash. I think we oughta basically take it year by year.

Given the recent rapid decline of Ladanian Tomlinson, I'd say yes but the better alternative would be to franchise Gore (assuming there is such a thing once the CBA mess is worked out) in 2012 if he has that kind of season. He might want another long term deal but it would pay him Top 5 RB money for 1 year and the 49ers' risk would be limited to 1 year. If he had another very good year, they could franchise tag him a 2nd time. At that point, he'd be 31 with 4 more years of wear and tear on him and it probably would be time to let him go.

we should extend his contract out to 2013 with an option for 14 i think having dixon and coffee will help him out save his body some he is a great running back but he does get hurt alot i don't think frank want's to go anywhere and the best thing about him he does'nt want to lose he plays hard and with this new line hopefully he has a pro bowl year even these receivers will help open up some running lanes the safeties have to play back now.

I agree, this season can determine his nxet deal...not that the rookies are going to be great instantly, but he should be running behind a better line overall...
