yeah, we've really hedged our bets in the return game. I love the stubborness that we exhibit. We're going to fix it damnit, no matter what it takes!
Yes. That's why I b***hed about McClown. In 5 years he never drafted a decent return man and drafted only one true tackle.

I hope your right Vann was sick in college at PR and Ginn has been a very good NFL KR. I would like to see them put 2 guys back on punts sometimes keep the defense worried about reverses etc. Very happy our 2 biggest needs have beens solved at OL and PR/KR.

don't you remember last time we tried that?
Apart from that I agree I think we have adressed a lot of holes in the team and generally improved the talent on the roster. I think Williams has a very good shot of making the team, especially after the fuss they made over his slot play ability

Great post. It seems like even though they got Ginn unexpectedly before the draft, they still stuck to the plan of drafting returners and Vann looks like he could be used on screens like Sproles.

huh? the blocking was horrid on the 2nd return. 2 guys came free right at him and he made them both miss. The 1st return had some good blocking.

one of our objectives was to get faster and boy did we. I'm thinking two of them stick. probably Ginn and Vann with Williams to practice squad. But it's early, we'll see.

It should be better than what it was. Vann has a huge jump in competition level. So I wouldn't get too carried away with him or his highlights. Leroy Vann might not even make the team.

Yeah, I was gonna post that too. You gotta love that. The only thing is that it was in the same breath as him saying Deion's name which kind of ruined it for me......... j/k.

Agreed. Ginn hasn't been a good punt returner, so they need to keep Vann or Williams in addition to Ginn. And put the third on the PS.
I think Vann would be the best to keep for returns between him and Williams. The only problem i see is that Vann doesn't really have a position...what would he play for us besides KR/PR? Williams could be a slot guy.
PS
How did Williams fall to the 6th round? He looks like a solid WR in those clips. Did he have off the field issues?
I wouldn't mind if Vann was on the team strictly as a return man because he'd be a specialist and based on what he did in college, he could be something very special in that department. I don't like when guys are on this team strictly for special teams purpose but are not specialists (returners, long snappers, kickers & punters) like Michael Robinson. Our return game was an absolute mockery last season with Walker, Battle and Robinson as return men, so if Vann can fix that, I have no problem with him not having a position on offense or defense.

well put lol, I'm very happy with this philosophy we fixed the OL by doing what it took same thing with the return game. Good for our organization for realizing we lost most of if not all of our games due to OL/Return game as a huge culprit.
We don't know if we've FIXED anything, yet. We ADDRESSED the OL and return game - with rookies. We have no idea if they will be successful in the NFL. Mike Iupati is the only one that seems like a "can't miss" type of guy. Unfortunately, the biggest problem on the OL was not at guard, but at tackle. There are questions about Davis and he simply isn't as safe as Iupati, so we don't know if we've actually FIXED the OL. We also don't know if Vann or Williams can actually return kicksat the pro level.
Basically, "fixed" isn't the right word, yet.

Ginn's is the only guy with NFL experience at this point. I'll be interested to see how the two rookies pan out in the NFL though ........ just don't want the team to be the laughing stock again this season in returns.
I enjoyed Vann's highlite reel but I am skeptical of what he can do against tougher competition in the NFL ....... I would love to be surprized.

Wow Ginn Jr. and Vann on kickoff returns and Vann at punt return, opposing kickoff teams will have a had time deciding who to choose! Here's to hoping Vann pans out for us.
