This pathetic attempt to slander a player late in their career is the same ugly road this board has taken with other 49ers who played their ass off for years, never complained, and tried to help their team win: Cue the tape to Derek Smith, Arnaz Battle, and others.

So, why don't we actually thank him for his effort over the years, and pretend for once that he wasn't on our team to sabotage our team's chances to win on Sundays.

Very good points MadDog. I for one was always a Derek Smith and Arnaz Battle "homer". I wasn't really saddened to see either one go though because I knew we had better talent on the roster at this point. But what you say is very valid. Our management hasn't been very good until as of late this past decade...

You guys should get a warning from the mods for comparing Smith and Battle to Mark Roman! I mean seriously? Derek Smith was a very productive player making a 100 plus tackles every year that he was a Niner. Battle, though not physically gifted was a very reliable reciever with sure hands. It's not his fault they didn't have a legit number 1 WR or QB all these years. Battle's career was also hampered by injuries.

Mark Roman on the other hand wasnt a neutral force on the defense, he was a liability. Not only did the guy not make plays, he gave up huge momentum changers and actually stopped other players on our defense from making plays. Your right, we should be made at managment, it's not Roman's fault he sucks. If someone wanted to pay me a lot of money to do something I wasn't very good at I would take the job too.

I never got the burning Roman hate. He is much better than other d-backs we had back in the day... the old and busted version of Tony Parrish, Sammy Davis, Mike Rumph, Vickiel Vaughn... people forget how bad our secondary used to be.

I personally thought we should have held onto Mike Adams, but Nolan dumped him.

Your talking about his very last year as a Niner. The guy had been around for 14 plus years and was a warrior.

Im sorry dude, roman may have been a hard worker in practice, a role model of a vet but when he was on the field the boy was a liability.
