Good move

Already liking Baalke more then McClueless.

I have to agree, but that's because I never really liked McCloughan. People are jocking Baalke pretty hard in this thread, but we need to remember it's only one move. I have a feelng Baalke will be good for us, but I'll reserve judgement until after his first draft.

I never liked McCluless as well he was always too scared and would never do a move like this. Baalke shows alot of character and I like that! I would really love Baalke if he traded up the Draft and got Eric Berry!

I agree, Scott pissed me off at times. But I wouldn't say he was scared to make moves. Twice he traded back up into the first round to get the player he wanted. He also traded a 4th for Jackson a few years ago. One thing that he was not was scared to make moves. Some picks he did make were questionable however (Balmer in particular).

I love this move! I don't care if he never catches a ball on offense. We lost two or three games last year just on punt return mistakes, and this should change all that.

You're talking about the guy that fumbles more than any other return man in the NFL, right? Come on! How is trading for a guy that has worse hands and ball control issues going to help with those mistakes.

Stop being such a Debbie! He brings the one thing that is missing to our entire team: ELITE SPEED. He's an upgrade to our return game. Over Arnaz Battle? Josh Morgan? Come ooooonnn

They are really pissed. All I keep reading is that Ginn sucks, blah, blah. I love this trade for 3 reasons:

1. It addresses two needs: KR and speed on the O

2. It's low risk/high reward. Even if Ginn flat out sucks, big deal. I'd like to know how many 5th rounders ever turn out to be studs.

3. It makes the niners more unpredictable for the draft. Everyone and their mama was pegging us to get Spiller. Now with this move, we don't have to. Could we still get him? Absolutely. With acquiring Ginn though, it has opened up many possible scenarios.

Good move Baalke.

This is how to GM. 5th rounder? We get compensatory 5ths all the time from the NFL. This was certainly a freebie and isn't he getting paid LESS than Jones?

He was the 9th overall pick. I doubt he is getting paid less than Jones. (but I will look it up)

he has had 1 fumble in 147 KRs and And 6 fumbles in 36 returns as a PR but only 1 last year

he had 2 fumbles last year it seems to me like he is starting to get that corrected.

this point is whats especially exciting. we can still get a KR/PR in the draft, but we can wait to take one who has the ability to also be primarily something else (DB or WR or RB), and we don't have to reach for one at all. Now our only MAJOR need is OT and we still have enough draft-pick firepower to get the one we want (if we want to move up, say).

the PR fumbles are concerning. But since that's pretty much all he's going to be expected to do, he should improve there...

He has 7 special teams fumbles in three years. 1 on a KR, 6 on PR's. He's only returned 36 punts in his career, so he's averaging a fumble about one out of every five punt returns.

There is a reason he's only returned a total of 12 punts in the last two years. Same reason Parcels let him go for a mid-5th round pick.
