The O-Line isn't getting flustered when it sees the main target on a specific play covered, resulting in a pass to coach Singletary instead of finding a new target. The O-Line isn't exhibiting poor QB mechanics and indecisive play.
All of these things would not be issues with a good QB, despite how poor the O-Line plays. You people act like our QBs take the snap and immediately go down for a sack, as if the O-Line isn't even there. There were plenty of times when our QB was given sufficient time to make a play and failed. The mechanics, accuracy, ability to read coverages, go through progressions and find alternate targets quickly are quarterback issues that the O-Line cannot help. Sure, any QB would look better with 30 seconds to throw every play, but the bottom line is if everything I said above applies to your QB, the best O-Line in the world isn't going to make him GOOD.
I'm not saying we don't need to address the O-Line, I'm saying many of the reasons our QB is not GOOD are reasons you can evaluate even with our current O-Line play. Let's not fool ourselves, we saw quite a few examples of a QB getting the time he needs to make a play and still fail to do it. With sufficient QB play, those missed opportunities would have been hits.
I hear you and I agree for the most part. Not here to make Alexcuses either. This is pretty much it for him. He has to play decently with some brilliant moments to keep his job. That said there were enough good passes thrown by Alex last year that were inexcusably dropped as well and he or the O-line had nothing to do with many of those.
The O-line needs to play better-they wouldn't make any QB look good.
Alex needs to become more efficient with his reads and lead his receivers better and start figuring out how to take some pressure off his o-line. It's probably going to have to start with him because the O-line just isn't that talented. Oh and he needs to take that ridiculous run right then throw out of bounds play out of his repertoire.
Playmakers need to catch the ball and not make stooopid drops nullifying TD's and 1st downs. That makes it difficult for Alex to get anything going. He's had some moments where he has been able yo get into a rhythm and it's not too shabby. We'll see how a whole off season with MC VD and JM works out.
A competent return game has to materialize this year too.
I don't see us making the playoffs until 3 of the 4 above things are fixed.
