I think that would be horrible and worse

but if McCloughan's scouts leave along with him, then Singletary is the only one who's been doing any scouting this offseason. Any new GM would be way behind and would only have a month to prepare for the draft.

There is Trent Baalke who's director of player personnel. But who knows who gets along with Singletary.

This the most logical replacement in the near term. He knows the scouting department and the teams mentality. After the draft is when they should start looking for a replacement.

why does it look like its a hoax? There is a possibility he could still leave. I think alot of this may have to do with his effectiveness on the personnel side of the ball. His picks after the first round and their lack of development is probably a concern for the team. I don't think it has anything to do with a power struggle. The recent statements he made about the type of players he likes to draft may also have caused a stir up.

Whatever it is , I don't think it matters all that much as far as the draft goes. The draft boards are probably pretty much set for the most part.

I would rather see a proven personnel guy replace him if he gets fired or does indeed step down. I don't think Sing is a good personnel guy.

Truth & Rumors: McCloughan Not Stepping Down as 49ers GM

Maybe the agent doesn't even know? -I mean f**k, the 49ers traded Hill without Hill or even his agent knowing until Shaun Hill found out about it himself on the internet. -There probably is something going on behind doors, the info won't exit those doors until the situation has been settled.

Even if this is a hack/hoax story it seems oblivious to be just 'that' (usual hoax stories have to do with player trades and head coaches getting fired).

No kidding.

If this is REALLY a hoax, the Matt's twitter account got hacked, which is more distressing to me than McLouglan getting fired. The Two Matts need to be able to tweet / twat with impunity. Any time Matt tweets from hereon, whether it be from the draft or training camp or whatever, will be viewed with skepticism.

That is the TRUE crime.

Look at the Twitter page for Maiocco. The two tweets about McCloughan are the only ones from "Web", the rest are from Tweetdeck or MobileWeb.

Plus MM's Blog is irregular -- can't post reply.

Plus MM doesn't drop "3 hours to respond" ultimatums.

Plus the ProFootballTalk & Mindi Bach posts from his agent.

Very elaborate hoax.

You might be right about Maiocco's twitter being hacked because it was actually hacked last month.

I'm reading Maiocco's blog as if he already gave the 49ers 3 hours and then he posted his blog. (the 3 hours have already passed is what I mean).

That is how I read it too. It is odd that you can't comment on this article on MM's blog, no update of his last tweet to FB, and no new tweets. Either he is on a hunt to nail down his story...or he went to bed early to leave us all clamoring for info all night long! Ha ha!

I doubt it is a hoax since both his blog and twitter would have had to been hacked.

No doubt. I dont care what the agent says, there is something going down. Agents are born to though out "spin." (Had to go with O'reilly verbage on St.Patty's day)

He's had multiple tweets from web before. But he'd usually link his blog to his tweet updates.

The fact that the niners did not pursue other GMs when they were available earlier in the year suggests that this is a relatively new development. My best guess is that McCloughan threw some sort of hissy fit about his power being subverted by Singletary or some other person, and is threatening to step down, which is why all the 49ers bigwigs met today to coddle him or work something out.

Your scenario sounds very possible. I also wonder if maybe Holmgren wants him in Cleveland.[/quote]

I thought about this as well, but they just hired the GM from the Eagles.
Just WTF is going on?!

Or there's a good chance a lot of s**t is going down tonight and he's getting all the facts/waiting for more info to rise out of the supposed 1-hour left (of the 3-hour wait) to become of the situation. -Everything (if anything) will probably be determined tomorrow morning.

I'm sure they have the option to turn off comments for blog entries posted on the website. In fact, it would be smart of MM to turn OFF replies like he did in case this whole thing is a big misunderstanding, and he just wants to cover his tracks a bit. If I were him, I wouldn't want wild speculation running around in your blog, which is located in the website of your employer, to be filled with a bunch of people ranting and raving like lunatics before the complete facts present themselves - especially if this is such a big story.

Maybe they had a difference of opinion of the team's draft stategy? (49ers and McCloughan) Maybe McCloughan had one plan or one guy he liked, then Singletary had another plan. I don't know?
MM doesn't usually type/talk like "big things going down tonight" I dont think that's an expression he usually would use. I think his twitter might have got hacked or something.

Or if this is true, probably why Sing's been showing up to pro days scouting and stuff.
